We also lost players for nothing. Cormier, Trudeau for example. There’s other players that could be included as well. I think ppl forget those scenarios. I think both moved on after the cup run no?

Yes, but didn’t age out. I’m referring to players not aging out and moving on. We miss cashing out on them. Think of the return of those 2 alone.

Trudeau and Guay are the big ones. Both expected to return as overagers and would’ve got a haul but made the jump to pro.

I see what you mean for sure but sometimes skill doesnt allow that. but the return for them 2 woulda been unreal 2sts 2 2nds minimum

We have had alot of assets that were expected to return not return over the years which has cost us in recouping the first round picks that we have traded like candy
Not at all fair to toss Cormier's name in that mix however as he was never coming back to age out at 20 and that was obvious by the time he was 17 and the decision to build around him had been made
The Isles have drafted well given the lack of high picks they have had during the entirety of Hulton's tenure.... however to be the competitive contending team we were we had to trade and trade very deep
If we had kept some of those picks or had some assets we moved at the right time we would not be in this situation
You can forgive having one year of no high end draft capital after a go for it cycle but as mentioned having two years of it is not forgiveable
and yeah the building around our current 17's could be done..... but if it is it's gonna be at a huge future cost so do you go thru a cycle of 1 1/2 years of solid hockey out of 6-7 or do we say we drafted a stud in the second round and lets take advantage of that and move him for a boatload to build around properly?
To me it's an easy decision but to the casual fan I get it why they wouldn't wanna see it.... and of course to the player involved it's his career we are talking about so you have to make sure he's on board
It will be interesting to see the moves made this off season.... if there is pretty much status quo we can expect the rebuild to be very long

I think the focus should be on restocking draft picks, which means that some unpopular moves should be made. Hulton should be listening to offers for everyone.

It will cost everything they have to bring him in when you go all in you need to fill in the gaps. Kearsey will be picked up by a team who can keep him for two years and be really good next year and contend the year after not to many teams add an 18 year old the year they go for it again BLB makes most sense
