No doubt that we will miss Gilles and his broadcasts....... He still had the desire to cover the team, but was getting a bit tired of the long bus trips and overnight travels.
I have no idea who will do the webcasts from now on.

Maybe he does not want a full time job following the team around. If every team do there home game, he probably wouldn't have to follow the team on the road, because road game gonna be done by the home team. I doubt they would do both, maybe exept for the English/French .... Will it be bilingual, or will the home team have the flexility of choosing the language? From my understanding, it'll be up to the home teams to decide if their broadcast will be in french or english.

Ummm...how would you do that? Is the home team going to be expected to hire a french or english (in quebec) announcer also? What happens in Halifax or Saint John or Cape Breton if two english teams play each other? Are they expected to do a bilingual broadcast??

I was sort of under the impression that the home team would provide the audio and video broadcast ... and that way anybody could pick up the signal ... but I expected that sometimes I'd be listening to a french language webcast if it originated from places like Chicoutimi etc ... a minor inconvenience (for me) but I often watch Habs games on RDS so it would be no different ... I'm just very happy to have the video option for road games.
If they are requiring each team to provide both an english and french broadcast ... and have these commentators travel with the team ... that would seem to be overkill ... it sounds like you will have 4 viewing options for a single game.
Obviously we need more information.

I know that during the Q Final games in Val-d'Or there was the option of listening to the games in french or english. I assumed the french announcers were from Val-d'Or and knew for a fact that the english broadcast was being conducted by the Lewiston play-by-play man. I'm not sure if there was an option for the games in Lewiston but I know there was one for Games 3 and 4. I really have no information on how it's going to be done this season but I'm thinking it will be similar to the set-up for the Final where you will be able to choose which team's broadcast to listen to. Under that format it would obviously mean that some games would be available in french only and some in english only. But as I said I have absolutely no information at all on how this is going to work, just speculating based on the broadcast of the Final.

The simple solution is each team has a play-by-play guy travelling with the team and broadcasting each and every game ... as most teams have always done ... and at each rink that audio broadcast is coupled with the video from the rink (hopefully in sync).
That way ... the fans of each team can always watch the game the way they always do ... but have the option of watching the other teams broadcast as we always have had.
If a team decides (as they always have) that they will only provide an english language broadcast ... then thats what you will get from that team. Conversely if a team decides it will only provide a french language broadcast then thats all you will get from them.
When an "english only" team plays a "french only" team you will probably get the option of either language ... but when CB plays PEI for example ... you will only have english options ... and Chi vs BC will probably on have french options.
The teams likely have a feel for what the majority of their own fans want to hear (I hope they do) ... and they will make that choice just like they always have.
If I want to watch an important game between BC and Chi I expect I will have only french language options ... and I am perfectly OK with that.
I hope they don't try to complicate the service beyond what I just described.

Just something to throw out there too... I'm thrilled that they'll be broadcasting. That being said. Telus will also be counting. So I hope enough folks tune in (just get everyone you know to tune in even if they don't plan on watching the games at all hehehe)
I think if they get enough interest, we'll see it again next season.
On the ironic side, I know a lot of folks that are upgrading their bandwith with Aliant or Rogers (me being one...). Great initiative by Telus that is giving their competition some business LOL. Is Telus an internet provider in Quebec or NS??

Problem with having a play by play annoucer from Saint John or Moncton do it, is the Rogers/Telus competition issue. I don't think they'd want a Rogers annoucer doing a Telus Broadcast. Just like last year, where Rogers didn't use their announcer to the do the broadcasts that Aliant was doing. Also, not every team has a radio announcer, or even an audio broadcast.

I read this morning that the Titan is again negociating with CKLE-FM this season to have the away games bradcasted in French... In my book, this would mean that the Titan hired commentator would broadcast on the radio also.

I don't care if they are in French, English, or Spanish........it's just VERY nice to be able to watch the team on the road......and it's nice to be able to pick up a bit of another language also.

From what I just read on Radoter, according to Courteau, it is the visiting team that provides the audio description. So if you're watching your team on the road, you will hear your team's commentators. But if you stay home and watch a local game on the Web, you hear the visiting commentator with their own bias.

Moncton, SJ, and Halifax have been broadcasting a video feed for their home games for the last few years ... does this mean that this now has to stop ?
