Has landed in camp for the Prince George Cougars if anyone is interested.
The game marked the first ice-time as a Cougar for Marcus Watson, a centre from San Jose, Calif. The Cats picked up the 19-year-old Watson off waivers on Monday from Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Watson, who traveled from San Jose on Friday to be in Prince George in time for the faceoff, got caught in a numbers crunch in the QMJHL.
“Because of their 19-year-old rule, he became available to us and we're going to give him a look and see where it goes,” Schoneck said. “(In the QMJHL) they have a certain number of 19-year-olds they can have on their team and he was a victim of that. I thought he was fine (Friday).”
....Well he is definitely not 19 and definitely not claimed on waivers so I don't really understand that, I would think he would just be a free agent tryout as he is 18. But he is with them none the less and hopefully it sticks so he can at least stay at the major level, I think we may regret cutting him.

I doubt we'll regret it if he stays in the WHL ... but if he got picked up by another Q team I think we would. But it still comes down to it that we had to cut returning players to make room for younger guys that have greater potential.
Watson is 18 ... January 89 birth date ... he will be 19 in January but plays the year as an 18 yr old.
I was not aware that we had outright released him ... I thought we cut him and held onto his rights ... and if I'm not mistaken he would have had to clear Q waivers before jumping to the WHL. I'm surprised a rebuilding Q team wasn't interested in grabbing an 18 yr old player that never really got his chance here.

Did you guys even hold his rights? Wasn't he just a FA invite?

Usually these types of players are unknown within their own league. The same thing just happened in CB- Stephen Ceccanese that played half the season last year is now at OHL training camp with the Niagra Ice Dogs.

We have a certain amount of 19 year olds to have? wtf? Does the WHL not know we are both in the same general league..CHL. That sounds almost as bad as an American talking about Canada and our igloos.

I read something that the team let 2 or 3 guys go that were with the team last year and they couldn't understand why the guy Watson was being brought in so secretively. Nobody had seen him play yet. I keep checking every other day.

Lol, only been a fan of the Cougars for 3 years now, not ready to call them "we". Hitmen on the other hand.... But actually in all seriousness I don't refer to them as "We" because I have in no way whatsoever helped the team. I have no bought any merchandise or anything. I've listened to a bunch of games but that doesn't in any way get them money.
