No number 12 being used ... probably preparing to retire that number later in the year.

No amount of arguing from me is going to help you learn. But another player also wore 12 ... he still holds offensive records.

Wait five or ten years, then maybe ... 5 or 10 yrs from now his contributions will be forgotten since they don't appear in any record book. There is no other player more deserving.

It's been long enough, Ian Seguin was traded about 5 years ago.

I'm going to get crap for this, but have they retired any numbers previously?
Gaudet would be a good place to start though....heart and soul of the team, a leader, a winner.

The Wildcats have not ... but there are retired numbers in the Coliseum (Bill Riley's 7, Oscar Gaudet's 11, Phil Doiron ?) ... and I've always felt it was a little disrespectful for future teams to use those numbers. It kind of makes those retirements a little empty.

By the way, that is kind of odd, that if a team planned on retiring a jersey, it would be in use by other players in the meantime. No one wore Tanguay's 18 or Shelley's 25 and that's the way it should be. Of course maybe the Cat's aren't planning any number retirement at all....

To retire a jersey, I would believe the player would have to had to have made a huge impact on the team in scoring, leadership and have dominated in the entire the league.
There should be a strict criteria to follow in order to have a players number retired.

I'm not a fan of retireing a number just for the sake of retireing a number. There should be a criteria followed. The right player will come.

There should be a criteria followed. The right player will come. I am inclined to agree ... to me, a number retirement is something you would expect to see once in a generation (i.e. every 20-25 years) ... it should be a truly special player who makes a lasting impact on the team and community. Is Gaudet that guy? I don't know ... maybe. That is why I don't think you should ever retire a number the year a player leaves ... wait several years, see if their impact stands the test of time ... if in 10 years, Gaudet is still considered the greatest captain and leader in the history of the Cats, then by all means, consider retiring his jersey. But now is too soon IMO.
