I thought that I would post a couple of my thoughts too, positive or not.
First of all, Riopel and Tardiff are the only reasons why Moncton was in the game at all. Riopel kept the guys right in there, while Tardiff kept giving gifts to the Wildcats. I even yelled him "Thank you" a couple of times.
Apart from Bathurst's first goal, Riopel did not have any chance on any other goal. Yes, he did look behind him on a weak Svoboda shot, but he still stopped the puck and untill the third period where the team totally seemed to give up, he was there stopping everything and making incredible saves! He was totally deserving of the 3rd star and I was sure he would get the 2nd. Talking with some Titan fans at the game, they all said that if he kept it up, Moncton had one of the best goalies in the league.
Lessard played great. Not only statistic wise, but he was the best player on the ice.
Our defense sucks. Pianosi and Barberio are not ready to be #1 and #2 defensemen yet. Baca looks kinda like Sheldon Sourray. Big shot, mean streak, but he gets lost in the neutral and defensive zone. Eastman did ok. Gomes had some trouble and Herr played a pretty good game I found. Couple of nice shot blocks.
Obviously both teams missed their respective absent players, but I think Moncton will enjoy more to see theirs come back, if nothing then for the size factor. Getting Mardquart and Brannon and Cameron back will help immensely, specialy with Brannon and Cameron being very good defensive forwards.
Penalties and a lack of a penalty kill did the team in. The ref called some iffy ones on both sides (Clendenning at the start who was pushed into the goalie by a Cats defenseman and Lessard's roughing minor for touching a Titan player). The only other call I saw wrong was the Gomes call in overtime. I was in section 3, so I did not have the best angle (the corner directly opposite mine would have been perfect), but even if Gomes had stuck out his leg, he caught the the Titan player with his hip.
On the Titan board they're writing how loud it was in the building. Well I was a little disapointed honestly. Last time I went there last year it was a lot louder, and that was with 2 800 people there. During the 2nd period, I started yelling Let's Go Moncton, and the only person who started yelling back was my Titan fan buddy. Although some guy in the back told me to go home when I stopped.
Anyways, the main point is if the Wildcats can keep out of the box, I can't see Bathurst winning the season series. And if they don't get some decent goaltending, I can't see them contend. As for the Wildcats, they're probably a #1 or #2 defenseman away from being able to make some noise in this conference.
Oh, and lastly, I did not see anything at all from the 3 20s who were playing. Poor effort from Lincourt, trying to do everything on his own, Morehouse was skating as if he dulled he was dragging an anchor and Mangan didn't do anything. When they were reviewing the play for the 5th Titan goal, he was nowhere to be seen. Nobody was close to the referee. I couldn't believe it as that was a goal that could have easily been waved off.
