The T&T had an article on this kid being the #1 pick next year, what do you think the chances are the Cats will be in position to draft him? It would be nice to see him play against the Titan and burn them a few times a year. The way the season is going I think the Cats should sell off whatever vets they can trade at xmas and go for the pick and build for the future. Couturier, Brown, and MacAusland would nice to watch for a few years.

His Dad said they just hope he goes to a good organization - he then backtracked a bit and said all organizations are good, but some are better than others ... wouldn't it be ironic, considering the whining about the likes of Brown, MacAusland, Anthony, Esposito, etc... coming from our friends on the North Shore (including the Titan GM ), if Sean Couturier starts making noise about going NCAA in order to extract a package from whomever drafts him?

He will play the NCAA card until it's time for the Titan to pick........... ...I also heard the Titan will be looking to trade up to make sure they have a shot at him, as he wants to play in Bathurst.

Kind of an interesting conflict of interest situation ... as Sly's best interests professionally (landing a star player) may interfere with his best interests personally (landing a nice financial package for his son) ... could also be a back door way for some unscrupulous team that drafts Couturier to influence a trade with the Titan, where they obtain an asset at a discounted rate, but sweeten young Mr. Couturier's package in an "unrelated" move ... Has there ever been a precedent in the Q where the potential #1 pick in the draft is the son of a GM of a league team?

The Titan will turn on his every mistake just like they do in Halifax with Bobby Smith's kid. He is better off playing away from Bathurst ... no pressure ... no appearances of favouritism ... etc.

Well BAT is preparing for this...they added an extra 1st rd pick during the 2007 draft...Baie-Comeau's...but they are playing well.
Sly may try and package his pick plus the Drakkar's pick...but this draft seems to be top heavy (top 3 seem a cut above) so who knows what will happen.

There's probably not much chance of the Cats getting him, as I dont see them finishing worse than the teams below them in the standings (P.E.I., Rimouski, Drummondville), and also, If the last couple of games are any indication, the Cats may be turning things around a bit, and could very well end up in the middle of the pack at seasons end.

The division is pretty tight and I can still certainly see us finishing last. PEI has the talent to turn things around but with their history you have to wonder if they will. It wouldn't matter if we finished above Rimouski and Drummondville because the two teams that miss the playoffs go into a draft lottery (a coin toss?) to determine the #1 pick.

Remember that we will probably trade Marquardt, Labelle (unfortunately) and probably others if we can. That should help to line us up after Christmas. I'm given to if we are going to finish last in our divison than lets get to it. A couple of exciting games is all we got to look forward to this year especially after Christmas.

I agree, I think the Cats should trade some of the vets and get prospects/picks and if we finish last than so be it, we would get some good draft picks next year maybe even Couturier and then we could build a team for the next few years that would be very competitive.

Rimouski will climb the standings once they get healthy ... I don't see them in the mix.
