I don't think anybody here would deny that the Wildcats' defence if overall bad. Players have been inserted into roles they obviously were not ready for. Pianosi and Gomes are probably the two first players who come to mind.
I personally believe that the Wildcats' top 4 consists of Eastman, Barberio, Wilson and Baca. This is a weak top-4 to say the least when compared to the rest of the league, but it should be pretty strong next year. Then come both Gomes and Pianosi, who both are having a lot of difficulty on the ice, then Boyle and Herr should be 7th and 8th.
The thing with Gomes is that he is a 19 year old. I understand that even if he is a 19 year old, this is his first season in the Q, but the fact remains this is most probably his only year in the Q. With him being the 5th defenseman, he should be getting his time in the stands every once in a while to let Herr and/or Boyle play. But we always see Baca getting to sit, even though as of right now his play is equal or better then Gomes, and his upside is a lot higher and will be here next year.
Pianosi also deserves to sit, but I think people are more forgiving because of his age (being a year younger) and his skills could have him explode as an offensive defenseman next year, even if he did regress this year. My patience is running very very thin with him, although that doesn't seem to be the case with most people.

I would really like to see them with Barberio and Pianosi 1st pairing (which they are doing) Wilson and Eastman 2nd pairing and Baca and Gomes on the 3rd.

I agree Carey..well put...straight to the fact...the kid has a ways to go, but making the effort...the stats are there Here's my biggest problem with "has a way to go". Gomes hasn't improved this year. Eastman has, Baca Has, Herr did from last year, Pianosi is struggling but improving. Seems temporarily overwhemled right now but coming. Boyle is improving but I'm not sure if it will be enough. Gomes seems to think he's there and there's nothing to improve. I think I should strap on my skates and do better. Then you could tell everyone that Buckybuckbuck is developing and has a way to go. Herr's and Baca's stats are there as well. Infact no defenseman's stat isn't there.

Well bucky, what standard are you going by? Let's look at the fact that the coaching staff kept juggling players around to try and get a combination together...only what, the 3rd month (if that) in regular season. Gomes had some ice at the start, then was in the stands. Yah he getting some playing time...but when you compare him to Wilson, Boyle, Herr...come on...be fair. There is no logic in not playing Baca. But tell me what is the logic in all of Pianosi's ice time...with all the mistakes that he makes on the ice...and he get PK and PP time. Tell me how forgiving can everyone be?

Here's how I am going to justify not playing Gomes over everyone else. I accept that we have a young defense that will need to learn. I think you started your rant saying Barberio wasn't even playing well which no two words about it its just wrong. But back to the point Wilson and Pianosi are 18 and Gomes is 19. Pianosi also played a strong age 17 year and there is butterflies or something going on different this year. He and Wilson are teachable. Gomes is the only one that is playing a game on the ice that has not been rehearsed to him in practice. Out of place nearly constantly. Is he learning anything in practice? He's 19 and if he's learning it in practice then it should show on ice.
If I'm going to watch sucky defense (which is better IMO than the offense) than I want next year guys learning now. As well my bar is that I look out and Gomes is terrible which is obvious to most.

Well I gotta wonder what games you have been watching whereby you see Gomes as being the only one who does not play to what is being practiced....Have you gone to the practices? And can you HONESTLY say that each and everyone one of those D's has not had a game or two that makes you wonder "wat the heck?" This is the Q.....the D on the whole are improving...Gomes included. His +/- is on par with the others. Just ask his team mates if you even speak to them. To centre out only one is ridiculous. Each of them have their weaknesses and their strong points...you really think that coaching staff would allow Gomes to even play if he was going against the format that is being implemented. Come on' give ur head a shake. You guys really need to cut him some slack.

i don'''t know why gomes gets so much ice time. it''s horseshit. the guy goes in the corner and his man beats him back to the front of the net. what the hell is that? gotta be faster than that to cut it in the Q. GET RID OF HIM!!!!!!!

Not saying he is good but he also is one of the few guys on the team that will acutally try to shoot the puck on the net

Not saying he is good but he also is one of the few guys on the team that will acutally try to shoot the puck on the net That ,I have to say, is true. With all the awful things he can do, at least he shoots the puck. Should teach some of the others to do the same. And when he shoots it, if it goes beyond the wingers' pads, it's usually a good shot.

I think the point that has been brought up a few times but keeps getting skipped over is the fact he is 19
The Wildcats are not going anywhere this year so why keep a 19YO who is not up to the league average. Play a younger kid.

Play a younger kid. What younger kid? Apart from Barberio and Dimitruk who went home, they don't have any 17 or 16 year old d-men worth anything. Firlotte is too slow to play defense in the Q.
