How much longer do we have to watch this guy, I hope they trade him off at xmas for whatever they can get and if there are no takers, then just outright release him, he is absolutely brutal. I know they where not expected to do much this year but this guy gives the puck away more than Welton and MacDonald combined did last year.

he was awful last night and he plays more & more, I'd use Baca before him, even Herr....

This guy is useless, unless you're trying to tank the season ala Rimouski.
For anyone wondering about his name :
Myles - Because he's always miles away from making a nice play and his passes are always miles off the mark. Also, when it's a good time to pinch in and keep the puck in he's a mile back the other way.
Gomes - Well they decided GO HOME wouldn't look good on a jersey so they decided to merge it, it gave GOME but since it's two words, it's plural, so it's GOMES.
I'll be honnest, I've seen a flash from this guy that made me think he had potential but that one flash at this point in the season just isn't worth waiting for the second one.

Although I agree with most people's assessment of this guy, I don't know if we really need to make fun of his name.
He did start playing well after having a few games under his belt, but lately, he has seemed to be taking a few steps back. I agree with having Baca in his place, but not necessarily Herr.

I'm not making fun of his name whatsoever, there's nothing wrong with his name. I'm poking at his hockey abilities(or lack there of) by ways of his name. It's like Crosbaby. There's nothing wrong with the name Crosby but you poke fun at the fact that he whines 24/7 by ways of his name. Also, I'm not sure I'd like to have Herr in his place either. I've seen one flash of decent skill from Gomes so far this year, in the past 2 seasons I've seen 0 from Herr. |

If you guys think Gomes is a brutal Q d-man you are pretty clueless.
Yeah he is making mistakes from time to time, but what you don't seem to realise is he(and Eastman) are 1st year guys at this level and given a lot of the ice time that Welton and MacDonald used to have. At times they are a bit in over their heads but there are no veterans to play those roles.

I agree with the others, Gomes has an idea that he's the best defenseman in the rec hockey game that is going on in his head. The problem is that this is the Q and he is getting bit on the ass every shift. He has lost games for failed lax attempts at easy clearouts that have been stolen off him and goals scored. Last game failing to cover his man. He's far from the only one failing at his position but with Baca and Herr sitting, it doesn't make sense to me. There is no comparison between Eastman who's played very well and Gomes. |

Wow...must be real easy to play arm chair quarterback. Don't know what games you guys have been looking at, but when you look at the defense as a whole, there are some real issues...not just with Gomes. Pianosi, Barberio, Boyle, Herr - all 2nd yr players in the Q....I watched all 4 of those guys and quite honestly, what do they bring to the table that Gomes doesn't. Barberio for a 2nd yr guy still is not aggressive in the corners, doesn't like to use his size and except for glimpses, cannot make an effective pass to a winger or clear the puck. Pianosi, well...if he can stop giving the puck away and make a pass to the outlet guy it would be a miracle. Have these guys progressed so much that they warrant the amount of ice time that they get???  As far as Gomes is concerned...yah...makes mistakes...that last goal...yah clearly should have taken out the puck....where was the forward coming back to take care of the third man comin in?? He skates in front of the net....man...THEY ALL DO THAT...Gomes, Pianosi, Baca...if I our goalie, I would swat them and clear the area as a friendly reminder...get out of my space. Gomes brings as much to the table as the others.....probably still getting used to the Q....I am sure that the D's in the past have all had their bad days.....strap on the skates boys..let's see if you can do any better. |

Baca should be in the lineup------end of story Baca should be in the lineup ahead of Boyle and Herr. Gomes is one of the 6 best defensemen on this team and should play. If he is as lousy as some of you seem to think, why is he a +2 on a sub .500 team? |
