Governors vote for 68-game schedule 2008-02-19
DORVAL, Tuesday, February 19, 2008 – Team officials were at the Hilton in Dorval yesterday and today for the QMJHL Semi-Annual Assembly of the Board of Governors and General Managers. Several issues were on the agenda and League Governors voted to make a few changes to existing regulations, which will be implemented for the start of the 2008-09 season.
League Governors put their stamp of approval on a 68-game regular season schedule.
The Governors reached a consensus regarding a travel plan for next year’s playoffs:
- For first and second round playoff match-ups, if the distance between the two cities is greater than 800 kilometres, then the format will be 2-3-2. - For first and second round playoff match-ups, if the distance between the two cities is fewer than 800 kilometres, then the format will be 2-2-1-1-1. - For the League semi-finals and final, the format will remain 2-2-1-1-1 regardless of the distance between the two cities.
Finally, the Governors voted to grant the Commissioner the power to schedule the beginning and the end of each of the three trade windows:
- The annual QMJHL Entry Draft - The August trade period - The Christmas Holidays trade period
The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, announced that the composition of the 2008-09 regular season and playoff formats as well as the makeup of the new divisions would be determined within the next few weeks.
