Well one ref can't ref these games anymore. It's too fast paced and yes sometimes even when theres 2, it is a bad reffed game but i think the league needs to look into having 2 refs the whole time. I read something about the east coast teams get 1 ref a lot more then quebec because of location and i don't know if theres any truth to that but you would think the league would realize how bad some of these games are being reffed. IMO you should never hear " we want a ref" chant from a crowd, it's just embarrassing to the league.

This is my first post but I've had season tickets from day 1. I couldn't make the game Sat. night but watched on TV. With the magic of PVR I watched Howe's whack the Fog Devil deliberately. Three games is more than fair. I'm almost positive he got a slew foot in front of the net seconds before which I believe is what sent Beaulieu off the deep end. Result... a selfish momentum killing major. As for the officiating, it wasn't great but I'd rather see non calls than a three hour game with 25+ penalties. Over the course of a season the calls will even out. Bad penalties will cost the Dogs in the playoffs and to avoid them the self discipline has to start with the suits behind the bench

Saint John forward suspended for slash
Andrew McGilligan Telegraph-Journal Published Wednesday January 30th, 2008 Appeared on page B12
CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Saint John Sea Dogs were without forward Scott Howes on Tuesday and that will be the case for the rest of the week.
The 20-year-old forward was suspended three games by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Tuesday for his actions in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the St. John's Fog Devils.
At approximately the five-minute mark of the third period on Saturday, Howes slashed Samuel Grenache in the face.
Howes was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct on the play.
The Fog Devils scored the eventual game-winner on the five-minute man advantage.
Sea Dogs head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu called the play vicious and had a long talk with his forward following the game.
"We made it clear we don't want that kind of stuff," Beaulieu said. "It's bad for the league and it's not part of (Howes') nature."
The coach pointed out that the Toronto, Ont. product, while playing a hard-nosed style of game, has no past history of this kind of act and feels remorse over his actions.
It was those two factors that kept the suspension from being longer.
"The league told us it wasn't five games because of his record and they felt he was sincere when they spoke to him," Beaulieu said.
In Howes' absence, New Maryland native Mike Thomas will see more ice time.
Playing on the fourth line for much of the season, Thomas was promoted to the third line in Tuesday's game against the Rocket alongside Francois Gauthier and Alexandre Leduc. Alexandre Picard who usually centres the third line with Howes on the wing, moved to the top line with Chris Di Domenico and Ryan Sparling.
Howes, who did not accompany the team to Prince Edward Island, will not be able to suit up for the Sea Dogs again until Sunday in Moncton against the Wildcats. In addition to Tuesday's game, the 20-year-old will miss Thursday's home game against Victoriaville and Friday's road game in Lewiston. Howes is second on the team, behind Di Domenico, in goals with 30 and points with 56.

the slash that Howes did must have been pretty bad even though on TV you could not see it and there was no replay that I saw. When your coach & gm makes a statement that it was vicious it must have been because when he speaks he means what he says. As for 3 games guess he is lucky it was not more you have one down (win ) and two to go .Still think this team will finish first or second overall.Tough remainding schelude but I think this team has character to do this

No way we finish first or second overall this year...maybe in our division. We will probably end up 4th-6th overall at the end of the season.

I read something about the east coast teams get 1 ref a lot more then quebec because of location and i don't know if theres any truth to that but you would think the league would realize how bad some of these games are being reffed. I think all teams were having two refs for 1\2 of their games? I could be wrong though. I just went back and watched this and it was hardly intentional. From my POV, it did not look intentional at all, just got the stick to high up. "Sea Dogs head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu called the play vicious and had a long talk with his forward following the game."Funny how a home teams fans see things differently, eh? (but, to be fair, it happens at all rinks)
