Being a member of numerous hockey boards, I found out that people seem to think the QMJHL still takes a back seat to the other two CHL leagues.
I would love to see a mid-season all-star weekend that will allow the 3 leagues to go head to head with each league putting together their all-star team.

I think that would go over much better than the russian all stars that they bring over to play each league. Besides we all love watching the Memorial Cup, and sometimes while the best TEAM is there from each league...it isn't a true look at all the best players. Bring all the best players , with the best coach from each leagure and it sure would make for an interesting few games. At least then whichever league won could say that they are better than the other leagues...right now its just opinion. In my opinion LOL

It would be a good tell of what league is better but it still would be a matter of opinion. For example maybe the Top 20 players in WHL are better than the Top 20 Players in the Q. Well the Q very well may still have a lot more depth than the WHL so overall the WHL could have more stars but not as skilled of a league as a whole. So it's nearly impossible to make a complete judgement of which league is better but it would definitely be entertaining and be a decent gauge on league comparison, not to mention good for bragging rights.

I don't think there's any doubt the Q was an inferior league for much of the 70's, 80s, and early 90s - only 3 Memorial Cup champions from 1972 to 1995. Once the Q got into the Maritimes, and got exclusive draft rights to players from NS and NB, things started to even out. Not only did the Q get exclusive access to more talented players, but also talented players who played a different style than what the offence-happy Q was used to. Even in the last 5 years the Q has lost out on players like Daniel Ryder, Dan Lacosta, and Nathan McIver, so now that NL (last 3 drafts) and PEI (last 5 drafts) players are Q property too, it can only get better.

I think right now the Q is producing more top end talent but the other leagues have more depth. Look at the last few drafts, Crosby, Shepppard, Brassard, Bernier, Bourdon, Bourret, Frolik, Giroux, Vishnevsky, Esposito, Voracek, MacMillian, Perron.
It just seems like now more so than a few years ago the QMJHL players are going higher. I think the OHL is the top league around however. I mean look at Kane, Gagner,Tavarez,Stamkos to name a few.

There is no way anyone can quantify which league is better. WHL fans will say the WHL is better, OHL fans will say the OHL is better and Q fans will say the Q is better.

I loved the Hershey Cup format that was in place before the stupid Remax challenge came in. It gave EVERY great player in the league a chance to shine (not just non-20 year old Canadians & Russians) and even though they were all-star games, they really meant something- players knew the scouts were watching, plus they were playing for the pride of their league in best on best competition. Many of those games were quite exciting and I remember cheering on the Q quite passionately when watching on TV.
A really radical idea I've thrown out before in regards to league all-star competitions. Why not have the 3 leagues have an all-star challenge mid-season, and the winning league gets a bye to the Memorial Cup final? The winners of the two losing leagues could play a series and the winner gets the winner of the winning all-star league. It'd be quite a drastic change, but it'd be beneficial on a few levels- mainly 1) crowning a true CHL champion, and 2) establishing another event (the all-star challenge) where scouts can see & evaluate all the top players playing under meaningful circumstances.

That is quite radical..something like MLB is doing with their ALL-STAR game ...where the winning team in the ALL-STAR game gets home field advantage in the World Series...I didn't like it at first....but it makes the ALL-STAR game much more interesting(for the Fans and Players alike) Don't see it happening in the near future ..but it would make the"ALL STAR CHALLENGE" a lot more intense...and not just about prestige and the (supposed but not always)"stars".

The q is flat out offense teams getting up to 15 goals a game. The OHL is inbetween not too offensive but has some defensive element. The WHL is the nhl back in 1999 the rules are different they allow clutching and holding.

The OHL scored .1 goals per game less than the Q last year... Gone are the days of the "flat out offensive Q league"

I think the CHL should try to look into having a little tourament with the CHL leagues All-Stars and have a Cup and all the things that make it important to leagues and players and fans...
