I expected to see more students there tonight too, I was surprised to see only 3100 with that promotion on.....but for a normal Wed. night thats about right....the "hockey fans" in Saint John don't know what their missing with this team, top 10 in the country and 3100 is sad...but like Leask said when the playoffs start the 3500 invisible fans will reappear in all their glory. They were selling $5 tickets at the high schools too.

It was a Wednesday night, what more could you expect. Not to mention, the Sea Dogs org. didn't do a very good job promoting the student night. Only heard of it this morning. Do they really think many students read the paper or listen to News 88.9? It wasn't only advertised on News 88.9. Country 94 & The Wave, along with K100 and C98 were advertising it. News 88.9 seems to advertise it alot more, probably because they are the official broadcaster for the team.

I listen to News 88.9 quite a bit actually and I don't recall hearing too much about it, even there. I tend to block out advertising though so who knows.
The ads I do remember on 88.9 though struck me as funny. Andrew Langan was the player promoting the game. I see the angle as he's a local kid and all, but anyone that even half-assedly follows the team knew that Langan wouldn't be dressed for the game.

Feel free to jump in there and bash Cafucklehead anytime. ;D I believe around Xmas time they said all remaining Wednesday night games will indeed be student nights. Now that I think of it...didn't they make every weekday game remaining a student night? Wednesdays for sure anyway.

Berner I cannot believe I actually agree with you on something but although I like watching Gallent snap some guy now and then I don't think that we get push around without him. In fact we looked like the team doing the pushing last night. That was probably one of the best line up combinations we had on the ice this year.
As for the student night I think that the promotions people need to talk with someone who has kids. First all student athletes usually play Monday - Thursday nights. Second it is a school night and it is the end of semester and kids have to get everything handed in this week. Third is we have exams coming up and there are still a lot of kids that take this serious. Do a blitz on a Friday night and have high school competitions at the game and you might get more kids out. Plus that fact that there are not a lot of kids on the Sea Dogs even attending local schools they are all out in the Valley. I think most go to KV and their school was not even present last night. Still a bit of work to do in this area.
Finally this was the first time all year that the top line has actually sat and watched for the entire last ten minutes of the game. I think that JB is reading the posts. LOL However on a serious note it gave the top line much needed rest and then in return the players we are going to need down the stretch are getting valuable ice time. This is the first and only time JB has done this and if he continues to do this I think we will be successful. Also not killing guys on the penalty kill was another plus. Personally my hat is off to JB because this is what I have been waiting for since the start of the year. I like seeing all the kids play and contribute.

There was a High School double-header at the LBR last night too as there is just about every Wednesday night. Three city teams were playing. Prime ticket buyers.

I know that here in St. John's, high-school kids would prefer the high school hockey league over Q hockey. It makes since to e since it's what they connect with. And obviously the calibre isn't important to them.

And obviously the calibre isn't important to them. The HS hockey around here is actually very entertaining this year. The AAA and AA schools have combined to form a 10 team league, and it's quite competetive. I'm pretty sure at least one poster here plays in it. You're right that lots of kids go to them, but not as many as in past years. Their attendance is way down too. It was also an awful drive in from the valley last night. I can see any last minute shoppers backing out.

Probably because there is less threat of stand-clearing brawls
