Would you expect him to say they were going to trade anyone? Could you imagine a player finding out he was being traded by listening to the TV.

I can't imagine us going into next season with Passingham as our backup unless they start giving him some playing time this year and more then 1 or 2 games while Mayer is at the Jrs

I agree because if next year was our go for it year and Mayer got hurt that would end that plan rather quickly.

I have a hard time understanding how next year is our go for it year rather than right now. We have 2 games left until the xmas break indicating the halfway point in the season and we could be in 1st place.
Next year, we are losing Howes, Picard-Hooper, and Fullerton. We might lose Liske and Gauthier as well.
How are we going to replace Howes, Picard, Liske and Gauthier's scoring if we lose all 4 of them. We have no 1st rd draft pick in 08 either to trade. We will be competitive next year but I think we have a better chance of going for it this year.

Next year being our go for it year was all based on speculation, mainly upon youth development. Defensemen typically start to develop and play well around age 18. Next year would give us Grant/Stich at 19, Sauve/Amyot at 18, and Despres 17.
Dido also will be 19 next year. Sparling 20. I expect better offensive things from Leduc next year, etc etc.
JB moving for Howes and Hooper, combined with surprising success as an entire team is what has people wondering what you just asked Elementz. From the beginning of the franchise it was always "we'll make a run at it in years 4 and 5", just happening to be the years Sparling would be 20, and Grant 19 & 20, along with those other pieces being 18+.
Before we got Hooper and Howes and saw how well they fit in, would anyone have thought this year was a year to go for it? No way in hell. Thats why next year was always thought as the go for it year. That and the Q hosts the Memorial Cup so chances of getting in are a bit better with 2 teams from our league making it.
You'll have to ask JB if our surprising success this year has him rethinking that original belief that year 4 was the year to push for a Memorial Cup spot.

Next year your team should be scary...much like this years Halifax team on paper but a top end D and top end G with just as much offense.

Saint John this year, or Halifax this year? Certainly not Halifax this year. Saint John is at minimum two, top 2 line scorers short, probably 3. This year Halifax has the holes on D and in nets they had to fill. Saint Johjn will pretty much be focusing all up front.

But Saint John has some assets to deal...to add those pieces... They are going to be sick on D and in G (assuming Mayer can pick it up) and with a good solid offense they should be a .600 team...if they add 2-3 pieces they could be a .700 team

I am guessing he means we have Dido, Sparling, Picard-Hooper and Howes. 4 scorers when to fill the top two lines, we need six, so we're short 2.

Wondering what JB is thinking......Go for it now? I don;t think they are too far off, not quite there. Little more assistance required, all maybe shocked with what happens. I have no idea, but I am sure there will be some surprises.

Well for next year you wont have Picard-Hooper and Howes...I was talking about next year... Yeah our posts got crossed in there. I was answering playoffbound or whoever it was. To kinda link the two though I'd like to see any move JB does make involve a quality 19 year old forward that would certainly be back as a 20 year old, like a Chris Culligan. Not saying to get him specifically but he certainly would fit that want/need. A piece that helps us out now and next year. Those players don't come cheaply though so you'd have to wonder how badly the cost of such a guy would impact your chances at this year or the next. Also to address scoring woes for next year I easily picture JB moving Stich out and acquiring an early Euro draft pick and trying to land an impact forward that way.

If I were running the show in Saint John, I'd be going all out in the next 2 years and not paying much attention to what happens after the fact until it happens.
Deal some youth this year for some more top end talent. Then when next year comes around, make future consideration deals that would send some of your 18/19 year olds next year packing the year after. I don't see a reason why the Dogs can't go for it two years running, although prices will be expensive next year.
