SEA DOGS RECALL RICHER FROM QCMAAA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Friday, December 7, 2007
SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach/General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced today that the team has recalled forward Philip Richer from the Laurentides Vikings of Quebec’s Midget AAA League.
Richer was originally drafted by Saint John in the fourth round (59th overall) of the 2007 QMJHL Entry Draft. In 24 games played for the Vikings this season, the 16-year old native of Lachute, QC has scored 10 goals and dished out 13 assists for 23 points.
Last year Richer skated in 44 contests for Laurentides, tallying 7G-13A-20P in addition to 44 PIM. In the 2007 QCMAAA Playoffs, the 5’11”, 170 lb. centre registered 9G-4A-13P in 15GP.
Currently ranked third in the QMJHL East with a record of 19-8-1-2, the Sea Dogs next hit the ice this evening when they visit the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for a 7:30pm contest at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
This weekend, Saint John will play two games at Harbour Station versus the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Tickets to Saturday night and Sunday afternoon’s matches are available online, or by calling the Harbour Station Box Office at (506) 657-1234.

Congrats to Richer. He gets his opportunity because someone like a Nicolas Pard became impatient. Pard would have been playing a fair bit even a few weeks before this had he stuck around. Hopefully Richer and Langan benefit from getting some playing time, likely much earlier than JB was planning given the injuries of late.
Anyone have word on how long Sparling will be out, and how much longer Hooper will be?

Richer looked ok when he was here and by the looks of things he is progressing quite well, with an average of about .5 ppg last year and around 1 ppg this yr. He's not huge , but at 5'11" 170 lbs he's not too small to play on the 3rd or 4th and contribute. Too bad Pard took the high road but all I can think to say on that is .....NEXT!! Welcome to Saint John Philip

All he needs to do is go out, try to remember his defensive assignments, and hit people and he will be doing his job.

Picard-Hooper I'm hearing is out another week but they may decide not to take any chances and leave him out til after the Christmas break. Sparling haven't heard much on him personally but I suspect he'll be gone until at least after the break maybe longer being the same should again but I'm not sure.

They either come back against Halifax or they come back after Christmas. It'd be stupid to bring them back for a Moncton game, because that is one of those games that the kids should be dressing for anyway.

Gallant is out since Richer was called up to play with Thomas and Langan on the fourth line. I am a little concerned about the weekend as it appears we are down to three lines. I kind of liked what I saw with the Titan when he was rolling Thomas around the lines to give guys breaks. Put some strength on these lines and excellent ice time for a young player that needs it. However there is talk about a newly created fourth line and that would include Thomas, Langan and a new pick up. If this happens they never see the ice in my opinion against these tough teams. I would rather stick with my JB did on Wednesday as we did dominate most of the game but just ran into a wall in their net and that happens. Fullerton stole one for us against Halifax not that long ago. Three games in three days it will be nice to see how the boys hold up because this will be just like playoff hockey. If we can get guys some rest so they are sharp in the third I say a 4 -2 win Dogs tonight. If we get down and tired in the third 6 - 2 Titan. Edit: wanted to include the quote but forgot whose it was and had to go get it anyway
