I had to chuckle when the Remparts goalie fell coming off the ice ... and then for some reason decided to change on the fly and scurry back to his net and fall again ... and then the Remparts get a too many men penalty! Anyone else catch JB hop up onto the top of the board ala Patrick Roy . Yup, loved it. JB was doing his best impression of Saint Patrick...hey JB...next time you need a little more arm action so you look like a chimp.

I see the Saint John fans remain the same. 115 replies on a lose and lots of negatives. 15 replies on the win.
Amazing home game shut out boys well done by everyone.

Nice to see this year's squad seems to be able to bounce back after a loss... no back-to-back losses yet. Way to go!

The fight between Stich and Poulin wasn't much seemed to me like Poulin was just hanging on never even really try'n to throw a punch! They each had a good hold on the other. Poulin had nothing left after 4 games in 5 nights? Stich deserved it though. You don't stick a guy like that in the dying seconds up 3-0. This was the team I expected to show up in Halifax. It's a very huge win though. Hopefully Mayer continues like this.

One of the most entertaining games I have ever been at HS. It was nice too see a tight low scoring game for once where the tides could turn at any moment. Mayer was awesome tonight, what a cross crease save. He looked very focused out there tonite whereas the other games, he looked shaky. Dido and Grant had huge games as well. I noticed Grant and Sauve were a lot more physical tonight.
Props to Liske for keeping his 8 game point scoring streak alive.

Thomas and Gallant did a hell of a job keeping pressure on Quebec every time on the ice.

This might have made some sense if not for the Cape Breton home game. Perahps everyone brought their devices to the game that night. Check out the negativity. Rememebr the boy read these boards and it would be nice to show some support. I see the Saint John fans remain the same. 115 replies on a lose and lots of negatives. 15 replies on the win. Sea Dogs' goalie stones Quebec
Andrew Mcgilligan Telegraph-Journal Published Monday October 8th, 2007 Appeared on page B6
SAINT JOHN - How fitting in a game where former Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Jason Churchill dropped the ceremonial first puck that another Saint John goalie would steal the show.
Saint John rebounded from a three-goal loss Friday against the Halifax Mooseheads for a 3-0 win over the Quebec Remparts in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Saturday.
Sea Dogs goalie Robert Mayer made 20 saves to pick up the shutout, only the second in team history. The other belongs to Churchill.
Alex Grant, Alexandre Picard and Scott Howes had one goal each for the Sea Dogs while Mayer held the high-powered Remparts scoreless.
"We played better defensively tonight and I though Mayer was outstanding," Saint John head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu said.
The Sea Dogs started with their lines shuffled from the first seven games.
Beaulieu decided to switch things up to exploit the Remparts fatigue from playing three nights in a row.
"I was trying to get three lines going because I knew they were tired," he said. "It didn't work out so I switched it back after the first."
The first 10 minutes of the opening period was a back and forth affair with the action going end to end. Both teams had quality scoring chances, but were held off the score sheet by goalies Kevin Desfosses of Quebec and Mayer.
The period had a good flow and was relatively penalty free. Only three minors were called in the period including a late cross-checking penalty to Sea Dogs defenceman David Stich with two seconds left.
Starting the second a man down, Ryan Sparling split the defence and broke in on Desfosses. The third-year Sea Dog went to his backhand but was denied by the left pad of the Remparts netminder.
Four minutes into the middle frame, Saint John went to work on the man advantage. The home team moved the puck around well, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Saint John got a second chance on the power play shortly after and converted. The Remparts botched a clearing attempt in the neutral zone that led to a three-on-one. Grant carried the puck down the wing and snapped a shot far side under the glove of Desfosses for a 1-0 lead at 7:48.
Saint John dominated the second holding Quebec to just four shots while racking up 12 of their own.
The start of the third saw the teams trading chances once again, but much the like the first, both goalies stood on their head.
Quebec got their best scoring chance five minutes into the final period. Angelo Esposito, booed relentlessly by the Harbour Station crowd, broke in alone, but Mayer stoned him.
At 10:18 of the third, the Sea Dogs pushed the lead to 2-0. Chris Di Domenico and Picard broke in on an odd-man rush. The Woodbridge, Ont. product slid a perfect pass across the crease to Picard who redirected it past Desfosses. Payton Liske was credited with an assist to extend his point-streak to eight games.
Mayer made his biggest stop of the night just past the midway point of the period. The Swiss goalie slid cross-crease to rob Mikhail Stefanovich on the power play at the side of the goal.
"That was maybe the most easy save of the game because the coaches told me where they were going to make the pass and I knew it was coming," Mayer said.
Beaulieu had scouted the Remparts game against the Moncton Wildcats and said the cross-crease play was something he picked up on.
With four minutes to go and on the power play, Remparts head coach Patrick Roy pulled the goalie for a two-man advantage.
The move backfired as Quebec scrambled to get the right players on as the penalty expired and were caught for too many men on the ice.
Saint John would make them pay with the extra attacker. Scott Howes banged in a rebound at 16:52 for a 3-0 lead. The goal was Howes first as a Sea Dog.
"It felt great to get the first one off my back," Howes said.

Good game by our boys on Saturday night...congrats. to Robert Mayer on his first Q shutout, nice to see a solid effort by all after not being ready for Halifax the night before. Scott Howes looks to be a real good addition to the team, nice effort again from him...doesn't seem to mind getting his nose dirty in the corners, and loves to throw a good hard hit.
The Dido, Liske, Sparling line with another good game...way to go Payton, 8 games and counting keep up the hard work and the points will continue to come....my son is hoping to wear your number again this year on his hockey team...negotiations are ongoing, lol.
Patrick and company looked like a tired group when the game started to wind down...the Dogs kept coming and the Remps. didn't look like they had enough in the tank to respond. Nice coaching on the too many men call in the third, the goalie getting stuck halfway over the boards, then falling over his feet on his way back to the crease was entertaining to say the least, but to forget to call the 6th skater off before sending the goalie back out...Patty what were you thinking?
Nice game boys...best of luck in Rimouski...looking forward to the Bathurst game next Sunday...GO DOGS GO!!
