I know there are some people that don't care much about this stat but personally I think it says alot about players and the fact that they take care of things in their own end as well as in the offense department. I was just looking over some of the guys and I know it's early but what a huge difference already this year and I hope it continues and expect it to as well.
Just looking at a few guys from last year:
Big one right off the bat Ryan Sparling I know he's got some people that have often said how bad his defensive zone coverage has been and they have every right to last year finishing with a -43! However this year he's already a +8 in 5 games great start for Ryan and the way that line is going it's days of finishing in the minus are over let's just hope it continues.
Alex Grant - Last year finished with a -32 this year +8 so far and it's not like he's been playing against the other teams checking line!
Yann Sauve - Last year -25 this year +6 again plays a ton along with Grant and playing the other teams top line alot of the time.
Even a couple rookies have really been impressive:
Simon Despres this guy is the real deal he has made a few mistakes but he makes such smart decisions for a 16 yr old defensemen which is an extremely difficult position especially in the Q where it is so offense oriented and he has a +3 rating for a rookie I consider anything in the plus side very good with the amount of icetime he's getting and looks like he'll be getting more as the season goes on I expect him on the top 2 pairing. What a shot when he wired the goal past LaFleur ;D
Last but not least I gotta mention Mike Kirkpatrick again for the sake of keeping with the thread he's a +3 ;D I know +3 is not an amazing stat for some people but this guy has impressed I think just about everyone that follows our team would agree that he just never seems to quit.
I know pretty much everyone to this point early on in the season deserves credit for the effort (minus that 1 game ) but I'd be going on forever about the solid play of guys like Leduc and I think McNeil is playing well for the number 6 guy on the depth chart kudos to these guys as well.
Now if someone would just show Amyot how throw a body check we'd be all set
