SAINT JOHN - First-year defenceman Anthony Pisano has been designated for assignment by the Sea Dogs. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Wilmington, Mass. product will join Quispamsis native Andrew Langan on the Weeks Crushers roster of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. Pisano will remain part of the Sea Dogs' 50-man roster.
"We feel that Anthony will benefit greatly from playing with the Crushers," said Saint John head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu.
"He has a lot of raw skill that needs to be refined, and playing in the MJAHL will give him a chance to develop as a hockey player."
Pisano made a name for himself in the pre-season by dropping the gloves. He was suspended for one pre-season game after an incident against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
GIVING BACK: Saint John defenceman Yann Sauve presented the Children's Wish Foundation with two season tickets Wednesday.
Sauve, who along with Ryan Sparling were the most active members of the team in community service last season, said giving back to the city is important to him.
"It's the Sea Dogs of Saint John and we need to be out there helping the community," he said.
MOVES: The team has one roster move left to make concerning their 20-year-old players. It currently has four and according to QMJHL rules, they can only carry that many for 14 days. Beaulieu said the decision on which player - either Travis Fullerton, Jordan Knox or Francis Charland - will be let go, will happen on Monday.
It's unlikely Fullerton will be moved as he's the only Sea Dogs' goalie with QMJHL experience. Both Robert Mayer and Troy Passingham are in their first QMJHL season.
Of the other two 20-year-old players, Knox has not received his release from the Summerside Western Capitals of the MJAHL and Charland was scratched from Sunday's 6-3 win over the P.E.I. Rocket due to an injury.
CAPE BRETON BOUND: Gilles Courteau, QMJHL commissioner, announced Wednesday that the 2008 QMJHL Annual Session will be hosted by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Sydney, N.S. The centre-piece of the event is the annual draft. The four-day event will be held from June 4 to 7.
