This letter is in reference to the Sports Mailbag article on Aug. 31, in reference to the Sea Dogs releasing two local hockey prospects.
I fully respect the abilities and efforts of both Michael Cormier and Andrew Langan and wish them great success in their hockey career. I compliment their former coach, Greg Sanford, for being so passionate with his support for these two fine young men.
I do take exception how the Telegraph-Journal simply prints this letter without any perspective or comment about the team's decision. Since taking the dual role of coach and general manager, Jacques Beaulieu, has completely changed the attitude, commitment and depth of the Sea Dogs organization. The scouting staff has done an incredible job in evaluating players and finding hidden gems that other teams have chosen to ignore.
Would it have been fair for the team to dress these players and build up false hopes for both these young men along with their families and fans with so few positions open? The Sea Dogs have turned the corner and this franchise has never looked better. They are building a foundation based on commitment, respect, hard work and community.
The fans of Saint John will be able to enjoy this exciting style of hockey for many years to come and should be fully supporting these young men as they represent themselves, and the City of Saint John.
