This is just something I heard last week, but he works for the Sea Dogs so maybe its true. Last year JB had a very tight leash on Gallant, and he knew he wasn't allowed to fight at will. Apparently he wants the all time fighting majors record for one year....I couldn't find such a record, anyone have any idea? Word is that this year JB is going to leash out almost to were he can go when he wants, and allow him to go for the record...This alone would get me to more sea dogs games. Anyone have any thoughts on this/heard this before?

Well then he's going to be picking up alot of instigator penalties and the Sea Dogs will be killing alot of 7 minute penalties, as there arent a big selection of fighters in the league these days.
10 years ago, he might be able to do it, as he'd have 2-3 guys on each team that would be willing.

I think he can pick his spots... He is the toughest Middleweight in the league this year (unless his brother comes back and then its a coin toss)... There is always a guy who challenges the tough guy, and there is always a the tough guy on every team. So he could on most nights get 2 chances if he really wants to go.

But 10 years ago, at his size, Gallant wouldn't have survived trying to set a record for most fighting majors. It would be worse than fighting Cormier every game, and I don't think Gallant fared too well in those. A guy like Martin Grenier would have picked him up and thrown him over the glass. I'm not saying Gallant couldn't be a fighter back then, just that he'd be committing suicide trying to set a record for most fights.

True i think the size of fighters then was a lot different, but i don't think it would be worse then fighting cormier every night. Cormier was one of the most dominating fighters in the Q in the last 10 years...From what i've heard/saw... It will be interesting to see how he does fighting in the pros.

In recent times, Marc-Andre Roy had 41 fights in 2002-03 but the record is the 53 that Roger Seguin had in the 74-75 season.

During the camp he showed he has improved his skills as a player. With that he will not turn many invites down .But invites are going to be fewer this year.

Thanks 53 eh, ya I can't see him hitting that number. Its just way to many, no one would make 53 your body wouldn't even allow it. Broken hands etc, he has gotten better as a player but the team has gotten quite a bit deeper. I don't see him on the 3rd line which means he won't be getting all that many minutes. Another thing that hinders a chase of the record is the Sea Dogs will be competitive with everyone, so they won't get blown out often, and they wont' blow anyone out often. Without blowouts teams tend to stay a little further away from dropping the mitts.

One of the reasons Cormier was so dominating was because he had no competition. Cormier would not be dominating with the likes of Laraque, Shelley, Worrell, Therriault, Gernier, Lessard, Dwyer, Tardif, Grondin, Lewis, White, Stock, Ettinger, Flinn, Lariviere, Castonguay, Bolduc (Dirty bastard), Lahache etc. Some of those guys were really tough. Cormier might not be in the top 5 of the best fighters in the last 10 years. We played when he was 1 of the only real heavyweight in the league.

Well i would agree with you he wouldn't pound any of those guys the way he did the guys over the last few years. But not all of them played at the same time either, I think you could get him pretty close to the top 10 in the last 10....I mean Since Jody Shelley there wasn't anyone who tore through the league like him. He isn't in a class with Larague, but then again no one in the NHL can really hang with him to well. Who would your top 5 me, I'm not old enough to have seen Laraque fight in the Q.

While Cormier had some issues, mainly balance as he just tried to beat guys into the ice and was never set, he shouldnt be discounted due to the competition. Ive watched all these heavyweights since 93 also, and Cormier was big, fearless and destructive. Sure he would take more losses 10 years ago, but he was still dominant. Put in perspective, George Davis gave Tremblay some good fights, yet struggled against others like Bonneau, and I think he would have had a ton of trouble with Cormier also. More proof, there is a video on youtube of Carlysle Lewis (age 28 ish now?) fighting PL Leblond and having a hard time with him... Leblond, who just left the Q as a middle-ranked heavyweight who got tossed around by Cormier. Lewis, who has been fighting men for like 8 years now. Mauro Dipaulo beat Ettinger also... I think over time the older fighters become legendary, but really, there are only a few that stand out as THE top guys.... everyone else could easily lose to their counterparts. But no doubt there was MORE tough guys back then, and quality guys too. I still think Cormier would rank in the top guys. The guy wrote peoples names on his stick and only the league could do anything about it LOL

Jonathan Tremblay has to be included in there. 2 full years in the league without a loss or "slip".

Thomas Bellemare could be included too...he was #2 behind Tremblay.A guy I know used to play with Bellemare in Drum'ville and he said he couldn't think of any fight he lost that year.
