I think that's a sound strategy chilly... I fully expect Fully and Mayer to emerge as the tandem out of camp, unless Travis really craps the bed. Dopud waits in the wings until XMas at least. St-Laurent... hmm...

I highly doubt Fullerton would be dealt anytime before Christmas either way to risky to trade him and put the entire load on a kid that's never played a game in the Q.
Christmas could be interesting because we could deal Fullerton fairly cheap and pick up another solid 20 yr old depending on our position in the standings at that point.

While I agree Fullerton is useful as a mentor and as the #1, I think we'd get more use out of an OA skater. Why put an OA on the bench for much of the time? I'd be prepared to take a leap of faith on the kids if they stepped it up in camp.

Never know that 100pt guy might show up ;D
I can actually see them getting one after Christmas and after they trade Fullerton because they become alot cheaper after Christmas

Bigtime goal scorers and point producers do not become cheaper after Xmas. They become more expensive as "contenders" are often willing to overpay to get that one piece of the puzzle that might put them over the top..

We may not be looking for that voer the top guy though and yeah I can see your point though some teams do tend to over pay

I doubt we are looking for that "over the top guy", and don't think we should be. I just misunderstood your last post I guess. You mentioned "Never know that 100pt guy might show up" and in next paragraph said "I can actually see them getting one after Christmas". I read it as you meant we'd be getting a bigtime player after Christmas, but now I see what you meant. That you could see us dumping Fullerton after Xmas and getting an average type 20 year old skater to replace him. Correct?

You got it but yeah my post read poorly my bad
I'm think that if we are in contention and may be able to pull off an upset or 2 they could get another guy like Bellefleur justa character guy with some playoff experience.

I think you pretty much have to go with Fullerton and Mayer the first half of the season and for your comment on him sitting on the bench most of the time, I think they will split the games till christmas then Fullerton is traded or sent down and Mayer takes over from there when he gets back from the WJHC.

I am glad you don;t make the decisions for this team, yes it is kind of a waste to have a 20 year old sitting on the bench but it is better to have a good back up plan when going with a unproven starting goalie(Mayer) who has never played in this league or is used to the workload in the amount of games he will have to play. What happens if we trade Fullerton in training camp then a week later Mayer goes down with a serious injury and is out for a long length of time...........we would have Dupod to count on who struggled for the most part of last season. This year is very important for the franchise to make the playoffs and I think it is a wise choice to keep Fullerton around and see how the first half of the season and see how Mayer handles the new situation, then trade Fullerton at Christmas for whatever we can get

Well he did say "if the kids step it up in camp". If Mayer looks awesome and Dopud, St. Laurent and/or anyone else looks like they are ready to play at this level, why not? I don't think that will be the case though and agree that we'll be keeping Fullerton and that he'll likely get a fair amount of starts in the first half. Plus I don't think we could grab a 20 year old skater of quality enough to make it worth taking that chance.
You discussed moving Fullerton at the Xmas trade period. What if Mayer gets hurt right after we trade him? Same boat as outlined previous, and I expect the bottom half of this division will be a dogfight to the very end. I would not be surprised if Knox, Charland and Fullerton remain with the team all year. Unless one of them does surprisingly well and can be traded, or sucks so bad they get released, I think they stay all year. I don't really see a market for any of the three unless they perform well above what is expected they will produce.

I agree that all 3 could very well stay with the team for the entire year and I have no problem with that it really might depend on where the Sea Dogs are in the standing come Christmas.
