Just realized we had 3 2010 12th round picks. Now I know 12th round is really nothing, but gives some hope to some local boys who are ok players or maybe late bloomers. We have 3 chances to pick up a good local kid. By picking local in the 12th easier to keep an eye on them, plus can not has hard to bring them to Halifax if need be, versus a kid from Quebec easily lost in the fray.

Or a decent American who could potentially report.....

Yeah just pick guys going the NCAA route and hope they change their mind. Guess thats taboo to talk about though. But you also have to be mindful of how much room you have on your 50 man list. Quite often you'll see a few teams pass on their 11th and 12th round picks because they aren't willing to trim somebody from their list to replace with the guys available. I'm not sure exactly how many picks Halifax has in the upcoming draft ... and they'll probably trade a few for a player or two ... but chances are that right now you have more picks than you have room on your 50 man list. I know you'll make some new room going into the draft ... but the 11th and 12th round picks have to be considered in that way.

But who knows with Drafts. I just clued into or realize Garrett Clarke was highly sought after by both Lewiston and Halifax. He went 6th overall first Round 2008. Hali and Lewi both wanted to deal badly for him, and a couple of years later Lewiston is giving him to Halifax for Piette 2007 149th overall 9th round, and a 7th round pick. Now the Story on Clarke is only begun but if he turns out ok orrrrr, is worth something in a trade some day. Theres something to be said with higher round picks. Of course 12th round is a even bigger gamble.

where Piette was drafted didn't factor into that deal..... he was your a top 3 scoring forward for the second half of last season for you guys and expected to build off that... his value was not that of a 9th round pick

Of course 12th round is a even bigger gamble. A 12th round pick is not a big gamble at all. If you mean that the odds are slim that you'll hit a home run in the 12th rd ... I agree ... but it is no great gamble to take a flyer with a 12th rd pick. If it doesn't pan out ... you lose very little.

The Mooseheads record for late drafting (rounds 12 - 15) hasn't been too stary. The Moose have drafted 44 players from 1994 to 2009 in those rounds (8 in 2000 alone), of which only 4 played for the team. Derrick Kent (13th rd, 2000) has the most games for the Mooseheads (246), followed by Mark Lynk (14th rd, 1995) with 132 games. Christain Brideau (13th rd, 2000) played only 10 games, while Pierre-Luc Bacon (13th rd, 1999) played but 3 games. Also of note, Adam Pardy was drafted in the 13th rd in 2001, but never played a game for the Mooseheads. He's in the NHL with the Calgary Flames.

Brideau and Pardy were very good picks, you just traded them too soon...
