Potential end of an era for many long time Eagles tonight. 4 year vet and team captain in MacNeil. 3 year vets looking at new homes in the hockey world in Brodeur, Meilleur, Piskacek and our franchises all time leader in career wins and shutouts Olivier Roy.
Regardless of our feelings of whats gone on here, that core deserves a proper send off tonight and I think they'll deliver Cape Breton hockey fans one more win and send this back to Moncton.

I agree that the players mentioned above that were drafted and developed as Eagles deserve a proper send off and a sign of appreciation because in addition to this year's playoff they were there battling the previous 2 years in the playoffs when you had to appreciate their effort two years ago against a very strong Halifax team and even last year when we were at least 1 player short after Slaney's injury (When the prices were too steep!). Those years I can't remember fans finding fault with the team's effort many nights during the whole season.
Our D is giving their all and like it's been said before, it's not their fault the prices were too high (?) to add a true #1 Defenceman to this year's team. Olivier Roy has been a battler and true competitor since he arrived as a 16 year old. These players and a few forwards have shown in my opinion that they learned through the example of previous Eagle leaders and teammates how to play the game with Cape Breton Eagles' pride and effort. Unfortunately not all the players on this year's team got to share that same experience.

Despite Luke Adam's hat trick tonight I think the 1st star of the game for the Eagles was Devon MacAusland who took the 5 minute major. The Eagles really mounted no offense in the first 2 minutes of that penalty but finally found the range 2 minutes and 54 seconds later. They scored again 1:11 later. Without that extra power play time to get going the 2 teams might have been going into overtime 0 - 0. That's the way it was looking before the flood gates opened.
Shame to see Olivier lose the shutout and it will be a complete travesty if Jan Piskacek has to serve any kind of suspension for a great hip check. MacAusland's check caused Jan's penalty because Jan's hip check certainly shouldn't have!
Here's a thought! What if the Q League finally rules on the Brodeur hit and he and Jan both get a suspension? It just crossed my mind because we know anything is possible in the Q.

Piskachek won't be suspended for that hit. The refs clearly over-reacted. All night Moncton players were flopping and embelishing calls.
What happened to MacNeil? Hopefully he will be back for game 5. As always, this team lives or dies by Adam's play. If Adam ain't scoring we won't win. Luckily, he got it going tonight.
What happened with Roski? He looked fine going to the box, then comes out of the game limping? The PK was huge. Not an easy task to shut that team down that many times.
For Moncton, I found Tessier was invisable while Savard was easily your best player. I found just like game 3, Riopel is strugling to find the puck.
Lets hope for another solid effort Saturday, minus the penalties.

Both match penelty's were uncalled for. Both could have just been minors if even peneltys. What a game by MacDougall, Lagace, Adam and Horyl I thought that they really stepped up the offence and I thought that Ellis was a force on the blueline when he wasn't in the box . Kind of scary to see MacNeil not play in the second and all of the third. Hopefully he will be ready to go in Moncton.

As crazy as it sounds Luke Adam still looks a little sluggish .....even with a hatrick . What can you say though , he sure can fire a puck . I thought Roy should have been the 2nd star . If Piscacek gets suspended , that would be a travesty . Seemed to me that it was all hip . Way too many penalties especially some blatant stupid ones by Ellis and Cuzner . Anybody know how bad Nick's ankle is ? Down 3-1 but there is hope ! If only we had won that O.T Game and Brec 7 never messed with the power of the Over / Under !

Not too worried about pisachek getting suspended, just hoping the match is lifted so he plays game 5. No need at all. Even if they have injuries, tough to win with 3 d..
Give the boys credit though, Only game they werent really in was 2. That ot win game 3 and it'd be 2-2. 10 kills on the PK , count em 10! Nothing wrong with that.

I thought Piskacek went way too low. You can argue it wasn't a knee-on-knee(clearly hip on knee).....but the match penalty is intent to injure, and we could argue until the cows come home on whether it was intent to injure, fact is it was called and Piskacek will likely get a minimum 1 game suspension.
Very frustrating to not be able to see a replay of something like that on the video screen.
Agree with reality on the penalty opening things up, I was also starting to feel like we were going to be there for a while. Shot totals were very low and there weren't a whole lot of chances but when there were both goalies were great.
It's actually remarkable that there were 16 power plays in this game yet only 49 shots total.
Despite the win this still kind of feels insurmountable now if MacNeil and Piskacek are out for Saturdays game.
It'll be an interesting couple of days off.

Despite Ken's confidence that MacNeil should be back, I'm not so confident. I've heard that it's bad news.
By the way did anyone see what happened to cause Nick's injury?

All we can do is hope to somehow pull out a win saturday. No1 expects them to come back. I am sure its eating them alive for it not to be 2-2 right now. Blowing that 3-1 lead and coming back game 3 to lose in ot gotta hurt. Thats playoff hockey though!

Great show tonight! Agree with Hal on Luke Adam. He's very frustrating to watch, IMO. If I was a coach, I don't think I could last a whole season with him.

PK was excellent, holding Moncton to 1/11 on the PP is a pretty impressive achievement. Hats off especially to the top 4 D who played so much on all 11 PKs, and to our best penalty killer and IMO best player tonight Olivier Roy. Agree that in spite of the hat trick, Adam still looked slow and was still taking too many ill-advised shots. Yes he fired 3 tonight, but unless we win Game 5, it was a little late to get going. Nobody in the rink saw what happened to Nick, and I too heard it was bad news - hope what I heard is wrong. Both "match penalties" were garbage - they were both hip checks as far as I saw. Remember when you pretty much had to baseball swing a guy across the face to get a "match penalty"? Then two are called for plays that some other refs may not have called penalties at all? I hope neither Piskacek nor MacAusland is suspended. Very erratic refereeing tonight. Only reason the game got a bit chippy near the end was because the overpolicing of the game got players frustrated, and fuelled the fire. Riopel, even when it was 0-0 for almost two full periods, I found was having a bit of trouble with rebound control all night. Sure enough, Adam's first goal was a shot that he got a big piece of with the glove.... in fact I thought he had it.... next thing you know the light is on, it had trickled behind him. But I'm betting he bounces back in Game 5 with the type of game he had in Game 3. Roy was excellent for the second night in a row - hal said it best, this guy has always come to battle in games that matter, and has on many occasions kept battling when the team in front of him was in disarray. It's a real shame that the rumour mill has us losing him this off-season. The ads on the scoreclock for next year's season tickets, had a picture of Morgan Ellis with them - not Olivier Roy. Read into that what you will. If that was Roy's last game at C200, he gave a rock solid performance. David Savard = I'll go as far as to say he's Moncton's best player, period. Maybe the MVP of this series, perhaps even ahead of Riopel. What a beauty at all ends of the rink! Gormley was impossible to beat one-on-one tonight. Quietly, Marek Hrivik is also having a very effective series for the Cats. Hate to seem like I'm throwing a bucket of cold water on any optimism, but the VAST majority of the time any sports team falls behind 0-3 and wins Game 4 at home, they lose Game 5 on the road. I'd honestly be surprised if the series came back to C200 on Sunday... but stranger things have happened.
