Exactly. I think I posted this somewhere else, but.... any other organization or sport, this would be viewed as a complete failure (at some level - coaching, GM, Board direction, etc) and someone would have to be accountable for it (ie FIRE SOMEONE). But here, it's like....oh, we'll give you another chance....

I must say I'm also surprised at the angle Willy Palov has taken in his two recent articles on the Eagles. Does he really think everything is OK in CB after what just happened and how questionably most others seem to think we're set up for the future? Usually I find Willy hits the nail on the head when it comes to the Q, but in these cases I can't help but strongly disagree with him. The Eagles' board of directors buying Mario's explanations is one thing, but an independent journalist? Right after a 5-game playoff loss that seems like pretty concrete evidence that Mario's logic just might be a bit flimsy? What's going on here?

I was always of the opinion that Crazy Joe was a bit crazy, however his posting of the house building is just short of genius, I will in the future take your posts more seriously. As for Jack I feel for u man because I see Cape Breton going the Patenuade route whereby now just to remain competitive year after year it will be necessary to keep trading pics and players to keep playing catchup, the same method PEI has been using year after year and its been done by people who have very little confidence in their drafting abilities (ie) Patenuade, Savard and now Durocher and all of these with the exception of Mario have had no previous hockey playing or coaching experience .

What's the point of the process if not to enjoy the final result? If your final result sucks, then guess what, so did the process. I still haven't seen a good answer to the question that if this team was never a contender, then why the fuck did they trade what they did to bring in assets expiring after this season? Lets look at it this way ... say you love to build houses in the hopes it turns out to be a great home. So you get all the parts you think you need, you build that house and enjoy its construction, you are just putting the finishing touches on it, when suddenly its blown down by the wind. So you you start to build another one, get to the same point, and the wind blows it down again. You still like building houses, but at some point, you`d like for it to not blow down lol. Everytime it blows down, its gets less enjoyable building another one, especially when you know in the back of your mind, it will probably blow down again. Meanwhile, your neighbour takes more time and gets better materials and ends up with a great house, while you are still trying to build one quick and as cheaply as possible with a foreman who doesnt seem to know how to build a house to make it last. Eventually the buyers and workers will grow frustrated, even though they love building houses. That neighbour? Halifax. And we are building the house to end all houses. (ok that last line was a bit of an exageration ) Joe that was great. I totally see where you are going. The problem with the Q is that if you have a horrible GM/foreman that takes a run/lets people move in before the house is ready than the house will always have problems. Unfortuanately with maybe the exception of Gatineau only way to repair a house after the the Foreman screws up is to fire said project foreman....tear the house down including foundation...than let Habitat for Humanity/Midget Draft/Euro Draft give you the best workers for a couple years to help build the foundation. Building the house yourself will almost always fail as your neighbors are getting compassion shown to them and given the best workers available. Cape Breton fans with the exception of Deer and afew other are all saying the foundation is not that screwed, and the house is still in somewhat ok shape, and we can live in it next year even though it will be far from perfect. Most of these fans believe that they can do some upgrades and in 2012 the house can host a huge family get together. This is the same thinking Halifax had, until Project manager Marcel got fired and the house got torn down and a new foundation. Cape Bretons foundation is cracked and the Foreman is throwing crazy amounts of money into the house or we could say trading it away. Something is going to be needed to be done with the foreman, and better thinking from the construction companys board members. Or your house will never be able to host or go to a big family reunion. Halifax tried to have a reuion at their house but Rimouski hosted it instead. Their house wasnt ready for guest either.

defresh101, I think you are dead wrong in suggesting only deer and a few posters feel that way! There are an awful lot of posters that feel that way and a great many more fans.
I'd love to see someone set up a poll on the message board about the prospects for next year and if fans feel as optimistic as Mario.

Reading Mario's write up in the herald pisses me off. Does he actually think he is fooling anyone (other than the Board) with his everything is in place B.S.
To start our goaltending should be fine. Mario bases the fact that Verroneau shut out Moncton in a meaningless game the last week end of the season as proof. If he isn't ready, Mario can just bring back a 20yo back up, who wanted to be traded last year because he didn't want to be a back up. Does anyone see the problem there? What happened to the "rumor" that Roy was going to Lewiston that Mario denyed the day before?
Next he says he is set on D. Ellis will be back, maybe Brodeur, then what? Mario has a Euro 4 guys with very little Q experience penciled in. I hope the euro D actually shows up this year.
This playoffs we managed 2 even strenght goals in 5 games. I don't see us faring any better next year when you minus MacNeil, Adam, Legault, Lagace. He says we will have a good 1st line in Horyl, MacDougall, Hertzberg. It won't be hard for teams to key on that line which leaves the rest of the offence to come from where?
I can' t take how our GM fills in a roster and thinks that is good enough. Any idiot can pencil in picks and unproven kids and say look we have all our spots filled. Oh well, thank god we have a good coach to get the most out of these kids. Oh yeah, the same fool does both jobs.
I don't mean to shit on these kids, I hope they have success, I just have no faith in Mario to make winners out of them. It would have made this rebuild alot easier if this playoff run was longer than 5 games. I hope it was worth it Mario!!!!

Just seems many posters/ Eagles fans I come across don't realize the damage done. Some go as far as almost wanting to wager that they won't be bottom 3. Really its to ealry to tell how bad the damage is until the drafts are over, and who comes back. But it could be bad. Eagles may do better than expected too. Remember the year that they were suppose to be not that good and they at one point were ranked 1st in the CHL. But your right management did some damage.

Reality forgot to say. The poll is a great idea. Will let you do this as not really my board . I feel a bond with Eagles fans now as we are 2 years into what you have just begun. Damn GMs and their dangerous dealings.

defresh101, that team that reached #1 had quality leaders such as Dean Ouellet, Chris Culligan, Robert Slaney and Beau Prokopetz as a starting core!

do you think the CB board of governors cares about the 6-8 regular posters on Nestcape? or the 3500 fans who fill the rink each and every night? Good point... but there's a catch. Cape Breton has done a good job of building a fan base in the Q the last few years. And I think they've done so by putting a consistent product on the ice. I'm sure the thinking is that if you have a decent team every year that occasionally takes a shot at it even if they're not THE favourite, that that will work. However, there's a problem with that. And it's all in the cycles of junior hockey. When you build up a strong number of season ticket holders, they not only become passionate about the team, they become knowledgable. They begin to know the league in the same way management personnel does. They think they know how to build a champion, and they want to see one. In past years, I had to sigh when discussing such matters on the board when someone brought up a point like bois did in this thread- because it was a valid point, even though it went against what I personally wanted as a fan. But this year, it was different at Centre 200. This fanbase has grown to know the league. Most fans I talked to that DON'T post on the board wanted to sell. And I DO know of fans that STOPPED giving the organisation money BECAUSE of the decision to go for it. People didn't turn away in 2002-03 after the team sold. There's no evidence that it would have happened. However, they MIGHT turn away if we follow this season up with two crappy years that could have easily been avoided.

Um, not ALL the people in the stands would have been upset with a Luke Adam trade, s'all I;m sayin on that!!!Well I'll say one more thing- SPIN SPIN SPIN- what would the coaches(and politicians) of the world do without it. My def of the word "spin"- when you try to convince the world and yourself that your actions were right!
