The article also assumes we wouldn't trade for a 3rd 20yo. Rumor mill has possibility of Holden coming back to work with Veronneau depending on what the draft or FA turn up. Doesn't have to be one of the three named in the article. Plus, that's the first I heard of anyone 'confirming' who 2 of the 20s are. That's a horrible idea. There's a reason Holden was sent to Jr. A....and now he's going to mentor someone and take up a 20yo spot? Can't see it. yes, the reason was he wanted to be #1 and requested a move

Interesting article out of Halifax has Olivier Roy being flipped from Lewiston to Bathurst in a package deal for Bathurst 5th overall pick. Take it for what it is worth Source: thechronicleherald.ca/Sports/1184949.html

All things being normal, I'd rather have Holden back than the other potential guys to fill that 3rd overage spot. Holden may not be a slam-dunk #1 in this league, but he's proven to be one of the best "1-As" and has carried the ball as a #1 for short stretches. The whole "#1" thing really doesn't matter - he'd be brought back to be a "1-A" again..... maybe playing say 60% of the games while Verroneau plays 40% (just a rough estimate I totally made up). The kid Verroneau is ready to start a lot of games next year, but maybe not ready to handle the entire load. Most 17 yos find that tough - look at Louis Domingue last year with Moncton.
Bourgeois and Bernard would be weak options as 20s..... Paul still has that legal issue going on...... chances are Brodeur will play pro and if he's back in the Q should definitely be traded for a high-ish pick........ Meilleur is gone at the draft (paper says Shawinigan, another source of mine says Montreal - either way he's gone)......... Lagace's time here was a disaster and I think it's best for both parties that he move on be it to pro hockey or elsewhere in the Q.......... and as Steve UL pointed out it would be counter-productive to trade even further future assets to pick up a 20 from another roster.
However, when I said "things being normal" - I meant that it's not exactly normal to send a guy down to JA in the second half of his 19 yo season when I'm sure there would have been interest in him elsewhere in the Q.... and then bring him back as a 20. I have no idea on the exact terms in which Holden and the Eagles parted ways....... for all we know, he wouldn't be interested in coming back here. He did however come back to town for quite a while after his season ended in Miramichi - I think he was in CB over a month this spring. So maybe he would be up for a return - but it'd still be pretty unusual to bring back a guy as a 20 that you'd sent to Jr A at 19.
And that Herald article is also the first I'd heard of Horyl and MacDougall being "guaranteed" overage spots - although it only makes sense that they'd be the two most likely 20s.

They're the 2 with the most value for sure out of the guarantees to return...maybe we even flip one of them(have to be MacDougall) for a pick to open up another 20 spot.

"Luke Adam (Buffalo) and Mathieu Brodeur (Phoenix Coyotes) have already signed contracts with their NHL teams so they aren’t expected back as 20-year-olds, while Stephen Horyl and Taylor MacDougall have already been assured spots. Francis Meilleur is expected to be traded to the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday to complete a mid-season deal, leaving Marc Bourgeois, Ashton Bernard and Kalin Paul as potential players for the third overage position."
deer, the article does seem to include them as potential 20 year olds which is remarkable whether that came from Mario or the reporter, but to many of us, they were very questionable as 19 year old acquisitions last year. Unfortunately, for the Eagles and their fans that's the way it turned out.
There was a rumor that Taylor MacDougall was going elsewhere at the draft but it was only another one of those rumors. (So far!)
A solid 20 year old D wouldn't be a bad acquisition to help our young building blocks or is it cornerstones? There are going to be a lot of extra 20's available after training camps that "the price might not be too high" for just like last season!

I could see you guys adding a guy like LP Lacroix for a 4th or 5th round pick... unsure what your current draft pick situation is but it's never a bad idea to surround your young guys with some veteran stability

Alex Beaton, local guy who can log 60 points or more, for a 4th ou 5th round pick. I could see this happening.

If that old rumor and Lala are right, you have to wonder even more about Mario's credibility because in the Herald article he said that Horyl and MacDougall had 2 guaranteed overage spots. I just presumed he was talking about his Eagles' team.
Last year we had a problem finding true quality leadership that set the bar at a very high level on a consistent basis. Where do fans see the leadership coming from this year?

another factor to consider re Legace.... if you are actually looking to contend in 2012.. a pick and a prospect now would be more helpful for 2 years time than your first rounder in 2011 would be, even if it is a top 5 pick ... just another way to look at it is all

Where do fans see the leadership coming from this year? I honestly think that Morgan Ellis will be named Captain. He will be a key part of anything we have going in 2012 if anything at all. He should provide leadership, he plays beyond his years kind of reminds me of Sam Finn at the same age when it comes to the way he handles himself. MacDougall is also a good leader but appartently he wont be around.
