The quotes in that article are pretty convincing. The thing is, when a kid comes out in the media and outright lies, it hurts everyone- the team that was going to draft him, Lac St Louis, and also the USHL team that was under the impression he would be commited to them. I understand that bluffs happen, but normally they don't go that far with them. The article said he was "relieved" to have made his decison, and his two older siblings both went to US prep school. Doesn't look good for him being in the Q, IMO. This doesn't seem to be much different than the Biega bros. The Biegas were telling people are year long they were going NCAA. I'm skeptical of someone who makes this decision 3 days before the Q draft.

I'm skeptical of someone who makes this decision 3 days before the Q draft. I suppose, but are there any published quotes from him saying anything about the Q? Maybe he's been debating it for a while and finally decided because he had to. I hope I'm wrong, and Cam has a deal with him, but it's just going to be another case of a player making himself look really bad. Although at pick #2 (if Halifax were to pick him) it's not like any team got a steal on him...

His older brother Kenneth Matheson actually tried out in the Q but was cut...so he went prep school because he wasnt good enough to play in the Q...just a minor detail I know...

I was kind of excited about Ciampini at #2 but it looks like now the Drakkar will grab him. If Gamelin won't report then we're forced to take Poulin? Does anyone else get considered? www.metronews.ca/halifax/blog/post/540923

Hard to say exactly what will happen...but ive had a feeling BaC was taking Ciampini for the last couple weeks...

Matheson might be drafted in the 4th-5th round but no serious GM, following this article, will take a chance on him in the 1st round....simply too dangerous to lose the pick... Also there is a new regulation in effect....don't you recall? Some GM, if Matheson is drafted in the first rounds and then reports to his team, will have some serious questioning from his peers to face..... What exatcly can be done? Oooohhh..... a 16 year old kid "changed his mind". Good luck proving any wrong doing there. www.lhjmq.qc.ca/lang_en/?page=232&id_nouvelle=2319"For these reasons, the Board of Governors, with the help of guidelines established by an independent committee comprised of Governors and members of the QMJHL hockey operations staff, have created a form which the Owner, the Governor and other key members of the franchise are obligated to sign and which states that they are bound to avoid using any action intended to jeopardize the selection process with manoeuvres such as inciting a player not attend the Central Scouting Challenge, the TELUS Top Prospects Presentation or the Annual Entry Draft or inciting a player to lie about his real intentions or to encourage him to avoid talking to other teams." Should a team infringe one or more of these guidelines, the Commissioner may assess the following sanctions: • A fine that could reach up to $100,000; • The loss of draft picks for the two seasons following the date that the infraction is brought to the attention of the Commissioner. The process will be initiated by the lodging of a formal written complaint to the attention of the Commissioner.

If Halifax choses Matheson you know he will be there. If they skip then obviously let the speculation begin should be a interesting draft... i have a feeling Louis Leblanc will be dealt again.

Ok, enough Michael Matheson talk. Let's move on to something else.
With our 19th pick, which players in the bottom half of the 1st round (going by CSR list) could slide out and be there when we pick 19th? That's still a little early to take a goalie, and with Matheson out, it looks like we may go with a forward at #2, meaning by pick 19, the other impact defensemen will be off the board, so I would expect Cam to take another forward at #19. Does a Louick Marcotte slide out of the 1st round? Andrew Ryan? Will Liam O'Brien fall? He's ranked in the top 10, but not much talk of him, and where he could go. He's ranked ahead Francois Tremblay, Gamelin, Charles Hudon, but I think those guys will go before O'Brien and it's rumoured Dillon Fournier is going to Lewy at #5. That's 4 guys right there who have a legit shot to go ahead of O'Brien. So does he take a tumble?

Can't remember where I saw it, probably on the boards, he wants to play for a Central Quebec team.
