The Sea Dogs did a great job of building a team that was strong enough to go for it last year and yet they have a great foundation of experienced and skilled 17 and 18 year olds as well as very tradeable assets who are 19 and 20 years old right now that will help build another very serious contender both for next season and for the Memorial Cup year. They also had 4 draft picks in the top 55 selections and 5 draft picks in the top 74 selections this year that could potentially be part of that cup run.
However, the Sea Dogs may decide at Xmas to trade some of their blue chip 19 and 20 year olds (Kirkpatrick, Sauve, Despres or Anthony, if all back) and maybe even an 18 year old (?) for draft picks and young 16 or 17 year old players at the draft like they did when they traded Alex Grant and DiDomenico to try to really load up for the Memorial Cup year.
I've never been a Sea Dog fan but I certainly admire their game plan the last two years compared to the game plan (?) of the Eagles.
If the quality and potential of the bidding teams plays a significant role in the evaluation and selection process of choosing the host team, which only makes sense, I have to give a HUGE advantage to the Sea Dogs organization right now over the Eagles, despite the Eagles successful hosting of the draft!
Amazingly, the Eagles could have put themselves in the very same position last year at Xmas time by selling 2 or 3 very tradeable assets but chose to go the other way, despite all the office hype of 2012!

The Q governors basically came out and said at the draft that it's a 2 horse race. It's Saint John or Shawinigan for 2012. What exactly was said, if you recall? I don't remember this, but I also wasn't paying really close attention on draft day. I recall it was an article in one of the southern NB papers, I want to say by Neil Hodge. There were comments from different governors about the 2012 host and there was little if any mention of Sydney as a possible host. It was all about SJ and Shawinigan and how well their chances were. Wish I could find it but the search engine on the papers site only goes back 30 days. Maybe someone else remembers or has a link.

I think it is between Cape Breton and Saint John because Cape Breton holds big events like in 2008 they hosted the draft a few months ago they hosted the ECMA they had big concerts like a few years ago nickleback came last year sean kingston came they would be excellent to host the Memorial cup and with renovations going on in Centre 200.Saint John is a big city and harbour station is a good arena.last year they came 1st place in the league with a excellent team and they will be good to host the Memorial cup. Oh yeah we're just a huge concert draw here in the Cape. How can we lose.....we had NICKELBACK!!!

Amazingly, the Eagles could have put themselves in the very same position last year at Xmas time by selling 2 or 3 very tradeable assets but chose to go the other way, despite all the office hype of 2012! Luke Adam alone would have fetched a motherlode. He probably would have brought a higher return than any other player in the Q. In late December, he was arguably the best all-around player in the league AND smack in the middle of having a great World Junior tournament. Look at what we paid for Jacob Lagace and Max Legault, and imagine what we would have gotten for Adam. By this point of the season, the two division rivals that would be eventual Cup Finalists had served plenty of notice they were for real. Saint John was just coming off of that 22-game win streak...... and Moncton was just having gotten last year's league MVP back in their lineup in Nicola Riopel. And even though it wouldn't be formally announced until February, the Eagles definitely had plenty of plans in late December on bidding for 2012.

I think your board of governors was hanging with Snoop Dogg when they decided to bid for the 2012 Cup to begin with.. it's the only thing that makes sense

I know I'm not the only one feeling this way but the comments made toward Mr. MacDonald regarding his size or appetite to be totally classless, unfunny and uncalled for.

I know I'm not the only one feeling this way but the comments made toward Mr. MacDonald regarding his size or appetite to be totally classless, unfunny and uncalled for. agreed, and I've said it before myself. But he won't stop; typically it's a guy's hair, his weight, eating habits, or the way they talk and somehow these jabs are actually supposed to lend weight to an argument to somehow diminish a person's character or abilities to do a job. Sure, it's a public forum and you should be able to express yourself, but this is a consistent and ongoing display of childishness. But hey maybe everybody else thinks this is top-notch comedy? And it's not like I don't have a sense of humour, hell, I think my signature is a Bill Hicks quote. But just when we're talking about fellow member of our small community it just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it makes me a hypocrite, but I guess I'm just not desensitized so much that I can laugh at people like that when I might end up ordering a burger behind them in the drive thru in town.
