Mario said he 'should' be able to talk about him tomorrow - given other such deadlines we could expect something by next week...
He also mentions Lagace not wanting to go to ECHL and could be back. If they're going through this trouble to get the OHL guy then just trade Lagace's rights...

If they're going through this trouble to get the OHL guy then just trade Lagace's rights... That would be insane to do right now. Right now Lagace's rights are worth about a 5th rounder. But if he gets sent back he's suddenly worth something like a 1st+2nd.....so why cut your losses now just to add a pick that does nothing for you right now?

Can't see Bernard sticking?? would he end up in Junior A or ECHL? Depends what NJ wants....I can see him catching on with a Q team in the bottom 1/3 looking for some protection.

Interesting.
Isn't this how Paul MacIlveen was acquired? He turned out well.

In this case, I'm glad to see Mario trying to improve our 20 year old situation.
Loyalty works 2 ways. Bourgeois and Bernard were both given great opportunities to come home and play before their families and friends. They had all the previous summer to train and prepare for last season to take full advantage of the situation and hopefully have their best seasons in the Q.
I'm pretty sure the Eagles were hoping for and expecting much more from both of them last year. Bourgeois' 10 goals and 14 assists weren't an improvement on his previous year in Lewiston and Bernard didn't play enough, especially with his unnecessary suspension to intimidate very many players. Considering the fact that he started the year on the 1st line and on the power play, his 3 goals and 5 assists were disappointing, to say the least.

I definitely think the organization expected more from both players, but, personally, both lived up to my EXACT expectations. Bernard played gritty. Took some stupid penalties. Stupid suspension when he fought during warm up. I expected all of those things. His 8 points is more or less exactly what I expected. Might have said 10 tops. Bourgeois. I actually like alot. Again, I expected him to be a 3rd-4th line role player. He's got a big heart and alot of speed. Wish he could create more off the rush, given his amount of speed. Again, his 24 points are modest and I don't expect much more out of a 4th liner personally. I think that I'd not invite Bernard to camp, but, I would invite Bourgeois and maybe hold on to him until something better comes along (sort of like what we did with Stinz or Murdock McLellan). That is unless that FA from the OHl has more to offer.

And the low expectations they lived up to make them pretty much non-options to be 20yr olds because neither one can play in a top 6 role and contribute on a consistant basis. Both will get camp invites but neither should be on the final squad...an invite is courtesy to see if they can attract another team, you have to give them both at least that.

Yeah, in retrospect, it didn't occur to me that Stinz and Murdock COULD/did play a top 6 role.

Both players were given opportunities to play on the top 2 lines during the course of the year!
They unfortunately are just part of a list of trades by Mario the GM that haven't worked out, the way they were hyped.

In this case i'd say both lived up to the "hype" created when you're traded for a 5th round pick. We got exactly what we paid for....1 year bottom 6 19yr olds.

Jack, I'm pretty sure that Mario went out of his way to talk about the untapped offensive abilities of Ashton Bernard because of his size, shot and skating ability and how he was going to play him on the 1st line and on the power play. That's the hype I was referring to.
