I definitely think the organization expected more from both players, but, personally, both lived up to my EXACT expectations. Bernard played gritty. Took some stupid penalties. Stupid suspension when he fought during warm up. I expected all of those things. His 8 points is more or less exactly what I expected. Might have said 10 tops. Bourgeois. I actually like alot. Again, I expected him to be a 3rd-4th line role player. He's got a big heart and alot of speed. Wish he could create more off the rush, given his amount of speed. Again, his 24 points are modest and I don't expect much more out of a 4th liner personally. I think that I'd not invite Bernard to camp, but, I would invite Bourgeois and maybe hold on to him until something better comes along (sort of like what we did with Stinz or Murdock McLellan). That is unless that FA from the OHl has more to offer. And the low expectations they lived up to make them pretty much non-options to be 20yr olds because neither one can play in a top 6 role and contribute on a consistant basis. Both will get camp invites but neither should be on the final squad...an invite is courtesy to see if they can attract another team, you have to give them both at least that. I think if a 20 YO can contribute in a big way on the defensive side of the puck ... PK work and checking top players on the opposing team ... plus leadership ... then they don't have to fit into the top 6 forward group to be worthwhile. Two names that come to mind for me are Zack Sill and Chris Gaudet here in Moncton ... both were excellent OAs here in a predominantly defensive role ... both were also great leaders. I don't think either of Bernard or Bourgeois fit that description ... just qualifying your statement.

Oh I agree with that for sure....it's easy to label a solid player a "bottom 6" because of lack of finish to be in an offensive role but I think without analyzing it too much that a Zach Sill type would be one of his coaches "top 6" even though he might not actually play much on the top 2 lines or PP thanks to the intangibles and relentless effort he brings consistantly. You can't have enough players like that, regardless of age.

Interesting to see if he is a defencemen or a Forward. As much as I think it will be a forward I hope its a defencemen.

I do agree but I would like to see some depth so guys like Leduc and our new Euro won't be thrown into the fire if they are not quite ready for this level. We also have a rookie goalie so the more help on defence the better. Think back to 08 when Olivier Roy got the starting job when Benda went down. They had Beau Prokepetz showing the ropes to guys like Finn, Meuiller and Broduer. I feel like we need to give ice time to MacIntosh, Parker, and Jodion to further there development. They won't develop playing 4th line and an addition of another 20yr old forward will only push them back on the depth chart.

Wouldn't be much of an upgrade over Bernard and Bourgeois if any.

Of course Beau was 20 and Morgan's 18. You're right that it's best not to rush young defencemen by giving them too big a role too soon, but the new guys like Leduc and Hrabarenka need to be playing top 6 regularly to get anywhere too. A guy like Meilleur in 08 was given a much larger role than anyone would have guessed, and he thrived.

How do you know this is the guy? Willy Palov tweeted that the Eagles signed this guy and that he fills the 3rd overage position: twitter.com/willypalov

Jr A. defenceman as a 20yr old on a rebuilding club? This can only turn out well.
