In my humble opinion, the Luke Adam "Me" period was nothing to be proud of!
Did you ever stop and ask yourself why Pascal Vincent let the Eagles acquire Luke Adam in the first place? Everyone, despite their feelings about Pascal as a coach, always admired his ability and wisdom as a GM. He knew exactly what the Eagles were getting; great skill package but................
I've never waved the pompoms for Brad Marchand, another very talented player and I never will for Luke Adam, based on what I watched and know.

I've never waved the pompoms for Brad Marchand, another very talented player and I never will for Luke Adam, based on what I watched and know. I am pretty sure Luke HATED his time with the Juniors. He has to leave home and play in a new area, the team doctors fail to diagnose his mono, so his spleen ruptures and he could have died, overall... I really think Luke did not want to return to Montreal. Not the other way around. um, ok, don't wave your pompoms for Luke... I think to a point, an offensive player has to have have that "me" attitude. Luke loves shooting, he loves scoring. As long as he has that attitude, he will do good things. I'm banking on the AHL to mature him a little bit, too, but I love the way he plays. Luke won the "Reebok/AHL Player of the Week" award today. www.mainesportsnetwork.com/2010/10/pine-tree-pucks-luke-adam-named.html

Pascal made the trade to set his team uo for this year. He knew Luke wouldn't be in the Q this year, so he picked up Chounaird who he knew would be back as a 20. It also helped that Pascal coached Nick so he knew exactly what kind of player he was getting.
Even though Luke could be a 50 goal scorer, Nick will end up giving Montreal 80 or more over the 2 years he is there. I'm pretty sure most fans in C.B would love to still have a Nick Chouinaird on the team this year. Add to it that Montreal also got a 1st round pick (Xavier Ouellet) and Spencer MacDonald from us (not sure if MacDonald really did much) and it looks like Pascal made a pretty smart trade.
I loved that Luke had a shoot first mentality. He has a big league shot and I wanted him to shoot whenever possible. Buffalo and the Team Canada scouts must think he is doing something right. IMO only James Sheppard ranks ahead of Adam in terms of skilled forwards to wear an Eagles jersey. James would have dominated as a 19YO if Minnesota left him in junior 1 more year.

James Sheppard was also an honest 2 way player without an ego and attitude. He was a team player who set a great example for other players to follow.
I have never questioned Luke Adam's skill. However, based on what I saw on the ice and heard from people that dealt with him last year, I had serious concerns about his effort and attitude. The Montreal Juniors have had a practice of trying to have Marquis players like Angelo Esposito and now Louis LeBlanc. It was unusual for Montreal and Pascal to let Adam slip away.
I also disagree about players always shooting because they have a good shot. Hockey like basketball is a team sport that encourages players to work hard to try to get in excellent scoring position. Once players realize that they're unlikely to get a pass they tend to stop working as hard. I personally love to see a really nice pass for a tap in goal or to an open player when the goalie has overplayed the puck carrier. The last two seasons there have been too many nights that wide open players were ignored because players were so focused on getting that big shot away.
Like macksayev mentioned, for his sake I hope the NHL / AHL experience helps him to mature quite a bit.

The fact that he made the first team all-star takes care of his attitude for me. From what I heard he didn't want to be in Montreal too.
I have met Luke's father a couple of times and I have a friend that knows him too. If he's anything like his Dad he has no attitude either.

I don't think its necessarily a personal attack on Luke, but, he definitely threw a few temper tantrums last year. I recall a number of times him dragging his ass back to the bench, slamming the door, slamming his stick. I like his passion, it just isn't the way to conduct yourself.

Luke is a guy who likes to score goals. When he doesn't, he's mad at himself, he has always been the type to show his frustration like that. A lot of guys in the NHL curse themselves out, slam the bench door or slam their sticks... it happens. I like that kind of intensity, it means that I know how hard they're trying and how much they expect of themselves.

I like harmless outbursts like that too. It usually shows the player is out there giving an honest effort and actually gives a damn if things aren't going well.

I actually had the Privilege of meeting Russ as well during the Playoffs last year, Very nice man, after seeing my Adam jersey he taped me on the shoulder as I walked by him and thanked me for my support of his son shook my hand and he was on his way...... Very Class act if you ask me.

Not to be an ass, but so what if it takes care of it for you? You're not an Eagle fan and being from NFLD I doubt you're a Buffalo Sabres fan so clearly as a Newfoundland Luke Adam fan you're a fan of his attitude because it's irrelevant to you because all that you care about is the boxscore and stats by the guys name. And this isn't ripping into the guy, I've said little to nothing negatively about Luke Adam because he was a fine hockey player and we had many other issues with that team but as an Eagle fan I have no issue with those who expected more because our team was judged by its results on the ice, not Luke Adam's box score off of it, and his leadership was one of our downfalls against Moncton where his boxscore looked fine after 5 games but looked like pure shit after 3.....which was all that mattered to our team. But I will add that the constant updates on his progress are rather annoying, especially since it's done by a Buffalo fan and there's pretty much zero info on some of the alumni that were actually proud to wear our sweater.

Jack. If you see a topic with Luke Adam in it just skip it if it annoys you. No one is forcing you to read it.
