So that's what's Tiger's problem. Steve, give him a call! One of my problems is club selection. I have what I call the fear of overshooting the green. More than half the time, I will leave it short of the green by about 10-15 feet and with a bad chip shot, it doesn't take long to hit a double or triple bogey. I'm like Elementz, I still enjoy the game even with all the frustrations, the worse one being losing balls just on the side of the fairway. Phil Mickelson had some great advice on club selection. He mentioned that a problem most amateurs have is not being able to get pin high on most shots and coming up short. His advice for fixing that was, select the club that when you know you hit it perfect, will put you on the back fringe. Then he said, how often do we actually hit it perfect...lol. Most times that shot will end up in the center of the green.....and if you do hit it perfect, all you got is a chip shot from the back fringe. that is very good advice...... unfortunately most people won't follow it because they feel the need to hit the same club or less club (meaning they can hit it further) than their playing partners i never even ask the people i'm playing with what club they hit..... why do I care? at the end of the day i just want to dip into their wallet lol

I heard that quote before...since I can't compact the ball with my irons I have zero spin...I have had perfect shots hit the green only to bounce 6 times off of it....I started clubbing down and aiming for the end of the fairway - fringe of the front of the green...bounce, bounce...roll on Hoping to change that strategy this year

I've never understood people getting fancy shafts put on their irons "so they could hit them further". All that matters is that you know how far you can carry them ... and the shorter the better IMO, within reason. If you hit your irons quite long, you'll be getting into half swings (feel shots) from too far out ... then consistency will be an issue which can only be helped with loads of practice. Many of the best iron players on the PGA tour were always the shorter hitting guys ... they get to take full swings on more shots.

I start the year, using that thought, take one extra club and a 3/4 swing, with kind of a punch shot....it will bite like crazy...one bounce and stop....work it gradually up to a full swing. when you get it to a full swing you will have to probably club down one too.......... You will hit it further that way, and get a lot more bite.............a lot depends on the ball you are using too.

Tried that before...didn't work all that well for me...Only club I can really get spin with is my 60* and I play the ball back further in my stance...probably the reason that is my favorite club as I can stick most shots within 40 yards or so....it's just that it takes me about 4-5 shots to get within that 40 yard mark. It's all good though...I am feeling good about this year.

I am feeling good about this year. For me, that's usually when my swing turns to shit. ;D It's like the rounds that don't start the greatest but you finish the last 6-7 holes playing great. You get home after your round and you're all happy and eager to go back, thinking you're going to continue like that.... but noooooooooooo!

Some cheapo Alien clubs...figured they would be fine for a starter set rather than spend big money....grooves are fine.

Tiger is back....played all 4 rounds pretty strong and once he took the lead on Day 2 he never looked back. Should make for a fun Masters..

LOL, none are interested in your testicules bud!!! haha just make sure you use a soft covered ball if you want some spin... make sure your groves are cleaned and you hit it properly.. very upright swing and come down on the ball. hit the ball first, groud second, minimize your divot..

what kind of clubs are you using? how are the grooves? The question would be more, what can I of balls are you using and are your groves properly cleanned...?? I started with a set of spalding clubs.....kept the grooves cleaned like crazy, as I'm fussy with my stuff, no matter what it is. I was bouncing pro v's off the green. My buddy had a set of KZG forged blades.....on number 7 at Squire green one night, after I bounced one in the back trap, I dropped a ball and he handed me his wedge......landed center green and spun it back off the front fringe. clubs have a lot to do with it, as well as ball......and it has to be hit properly. after that first set, I switched to a high end set, and had the drop and stop with 95% of my shots, instantly.
