wow this kid is really struggling offensively went from 31 points in a shortened rookie season.. to 28 last year to just 2 so far this year The lock out year gave young CHL and AHL players a big edge over a lot of NHLers that sat out. That's definitely part of it, plus 2 years ago he was more insulated and not expected to carry a big load so he'd be getting easier matchups like McKinnon last year. I blamed last year on the fact that Florida was terrible from top to bottom on every line and Huberdeau had nothing to work with basically. He's more a playmaker than anything else and with nobody to get open and score goals, he's going to struggle. It's happening again this year though and even though Florida still sucks, other players are finding a way to put up some points at least. Huberdeau isn't. I think he's struggling for the reasons Captain Billy said, plus after his rookie season didn't he have hip surgery? I don't know what was done but it could be possible that he lost a step from that, and he wasn't the fastest skating guy to begin with. Regardless I think Huberdeau will continue to struggle until he gets on a line with higher quality players. I think he can make good offensive players into very good players with his vision, hockey sense and playmaking, but if he's contstantly stuck with 10-20 goal scorers he'll go nowhere fast.

There has to be way more to it than linemates..... the guy was a finalist for rookie of the year two years ago and it's not like Florida was a stacked team two years ago.... now this year the only regular forward on his team he is outproducing is Shawn Thornton

Plus I'm pretty sure that with us, and with Florida in year one he had issues with at least one ankle. He never was all that fast of a skater, especially for the NHL level. If he has an ankle(s) or a hip(s) that are less than 100% then he's really going to suffer in the speed/skating department. Maybe he just had a good/lucky year in his rookie season. Maybe he'll be a flop. Maybe he just needs better linemates. Maybe he was one of those guys that was brought up too soon and should have been given a few years in the AHL. Only time will tell I guess.

I can't see it being teammates. He has more help now than he did when he won the Calder Trophy. About half-way through the shortened season, teams started to catch on and focused their best defensive players on him. That slowed him down a bit but he still did okay. With more talented teammates, I doubt the opposition is focusing on the guy with 1 goal and 1 assist. Florida actually has an okay record despite Huberdeau's lack of production. They'd probably be legitimate playoff contenders (I realize there's still lots of season left and can still happen), if he was producing as most expected him to this year. I would have figured he'd have a semi-breakout season this year with his old junior coaches rejoining him, a couple of years experience in the league. I think it might have started as a result of the injury but I'm guessing now it's more of a confidence thing. I can't imagine it's lack of motivation seeing as how he's an RFA after this season and could be in for a sweet payday if he starts producing.

Well he scored a shootout goal tonight in a 4-3 loss to the Islanders. So there's that...

He doubled his season totals against the Ducks today in an impressive win in Anaheim.

He doubled his season totals against the Ducks today in an impressive win in Anaheim. His struggles are probably my fault. I have him in my hockey pool. Being on my hockey pool team is the kiss of death.

I should give Bois my hockey pool roster so he can call them out. It worked with McKinnon and now Huberdeau.

I stayed up late and streamed the game last night. First Florida game I watched all year. Huberdeau looked really good. The announcers were praising him almost as much as his linemate Bugstad who scored both of their goals and got the shootout winner. They mentioned how he is playing with a lot of confidence right now. They didn't come out and say it but the implication seemed to be that this has not been the case all season long, and that his offensive numbers were a reflection of how he had been playing until recently.

Doing a periodic check on Huberdeau's stats and his Goals, Assists, and points are identical to his season last year - 9g 19a 28pts. The bright spot is that he has played 22 less games this season so he should set career highs across the board after a tough sophomore year.

He's 21 years old and in the NHL. Thats not too shabby at all. 145th in league scoring on a crappy Florida team. 30 teams in the league, 3 forwards each line = 90 players....so ranking 145th means (without even taking into account defenseman currently ranked better than 145 in scoring) that he's producing like an NHL average 2nd line player. I know what you're saying...I too was expecting better from him by this point...but he's still only 21 years old and SHOULD develop and improve over what he is now.

I just don't think you can call it a career year .... carve out a career first
Florida isn't that crappy a team either
he should be producing more than he has..... but yeah perhaps he will in the future
