A little MacKinnon nostalgia. This happened 2 years ago today:
Probably the best 5 goal game I've ever seen in terms of the quality of the goals. Even the empty netter was tough.

Pretty sure Abid had a 5 goal game in 99-00 but I wouldn't be able to remember the quality of the goals scored.

how many five goal games have you seen? serious question I suppose not many. I saw Frk's in last year's playoffs. I watched Gaborik's a few years ago. I remember Bure's 5 goal game at the Olympics but honestly can't remember each goal. My point is valid damnit! Even if it's not a very big point. I think Lemieux's 5 goal game where he scored a goal at even strength, on the pp, short-handed, on a penalty shot, and into an empty net is the most memorable. And yes, a 5 goal game in the NHL is more impressive than a 5 goal game in minor hockey.

I may be blending two games together, but I think Abid's 5 goals, were 3 slapshots on the PP, plus a rebound banged in at the side of the net and one was a 2 on 1. Jason King I can't recall them all, except one of the 5. He faked a slapshot dump in just past the redline, caught the goalie leaving the crease assuming the dump in, and fired it on net for the goal. Frk and MacKinnon I think with the other 5 goal games in Moose history, and I saw them all (for bois).

He lit up Moncton that year. Shit, maybe it wasn't against Moncton. EDIT: Was it against BC?

Anyone else hearing some murmuring of a mega deal between Montreal and Colorado with the centerpieces being MacKinnon and Subban? There were several people on twitter a couple of weeks ago reporting it, but that it was still in the early stages, and it would be a potential four for two deal with 4 assets going to Colorado and two the other way.
It makes sense for both teams... Colorado has their star centers as has been discussed to death, and are in desperate need ot defensive help. On the flip side, getting a future star in MacKinnon to help take away the sting of losing PK would give Montreal that face of the franchise forward they haven't had in a long time. Maybe passing on Jones was all part of a master plan by Colorado to get even more value from that pick, and still get the dman they need?

Colorado would have taken Jones if they wanted defense so bad. The habs, if they were to target a new face of the franchise, would probably be more aggressively after Drouin who is french and likely cheaper given his 3rd overall status and inability to make the club at 18 (not that I personally am too worried about that). It`s probably just fan chatter. I love Subban, most exciting player to watch on the habs IMO even if he has his faults. At the same time, it would be nice to have them finally try and build around a young star, and being ex-moose MacKinnon would be pretty cool. But Habs have a popular Norris trophy winner, Avs have a high end 1st overall pick quickly becoming a fan favourite. It would be bold to try and make a trade like that.

Yeah i just don't see that deal happening
with all due respect... MacKinnon is not putting up franchise type rookie numbers (solid season tho) ... Subban is improving every year and plays a much harder position at the NHL level to excel at ...
i'd be extremely disappointed if Bergevin moved out 4 assets for 2.. and actually took a step back in terms of where Montreal is at
you almost never see mega deals in the NHL anymore..... it's far more likely if the two teams were to be talking that it would perhaps involve some defensive depth from Montreal's system for someone nearing the end of their contract in Colorado (Stastny or O'Reilly).. MacKinnon will move in behind Duchene in the depth chart in a year or two just by progression

Sounded unlikely to me too. Sometimes where there's smoke there's fire, but in this case, I can't see it. Plus PK is already a franchise player.
MacKinnon has been getting hotter lately, and could finish the year very strong if he keeps improving at the rate he has been. IMO 50+ points for any rookie is a great accomplishment, especially when they enter the league at 18... look at Tyler Seguin- only 22 points his rookie year, and he turned out ok.

MacKinnon's numbers are no better than the last several rookies have been
last year Yakupov and Huberdeau were on pace for 53 points in a full season (this year Nail's on pace for 30 and Huberdeau on pace for about 37) the year before that Landeskog and Nugent-Hopkins had 52 points year before that Jeff Skinner had 63 points
it isn't unusual for a teenager to score at the level MacKinnon is in the NHL... doesn't make him a franchise superstar in my opinion.. I wouldn't trade Subban straight up for any of those players.. let alone actually add assets to do so
