Drouin is 186lbs and Stamkos is 190lbs. Is that really that much of a difference to make an impact? Hell Huberdeau is around the same and it hasn't hindered him in the NHL. Plenty of players 185lbs or less have handed it just fine. Huberdeau had a horrible and injury filled season last year..... just saying but yeah Drouin is not coming back

Using weight certainly does not equal strength. A man and a boy the same weight do not perform the same. If the frame is weak then it dont matter. There was no comparison between Mackinnon and Drouin at about the same size. Drouin is not going to out muscle men in the NHL. He needs those hands 100 percent. In any case he likely sticks.

Last year he only played at half speed and was disinterested most of the year ... he needs to be at the next level now. Coming back to the Q would be a waste of development time. Where he signed 2 yrs ago ... and went back to the Q ... doesn't his contract automatically kick in this year no matter where he plays ? Or is that a rule under the old CBA that they axed ? .. No the contract won't kick in if Drouin is sent back to Halifax before he plays his 10th NHL or professional game. Fucale signed during the summer of 2013 as well.

I agree 100% that he needs to be in a higher level of hockey then the Q but unfortunately he can't play in the AHL, and I agree that it would be a waste to development time, but until they change that rule, this will continue to happen.

If they changed that rule then our leagues would get quickly watered down. You'd see the top 19 YOs quickly jump to the AHL and our high end guys in the Q would not be "high end". That rule is good for the CHL.

Well it use to be that you had two years to sign a player after you drafted him, and so it was uncommon to see guys that weren't ready to make the jump to the NHL sign a contract in year one after they were drafted. Now we see it more and more where guys are signed and sent back to Jr. The fact that we see it more and more makes me think the rules have changed from what they use to be. But I seem to recall that it use to be the case that if you signed a guy and sent him back to Jr, he'd either have to make the jump the following year (this year for Drouin and Fucale) or they'd burn a year of his contract. That might have changed in the new CBA ... I don't follow that aspect close enough any longer to know.

That totally changes my thoughts that there was a small chance he would be back.

If you sign with an NHL team when you are 18, your contract can slide for 2 years if you don't play 10 games. capgeek.com/faq/how-does-an-entry-level-contract-slide

That totally changes my thoughts that there was a small chance he would be back. That article doesn't really say anything different then everybody already knows... But until he makes it through that magic number of games and actually makes the team, it's nothing but speculation... The world will know soon enough if he is ready or not, and the team certainly won't keep him if it doesn't feel right. I guess we will just half to wait and see.

All the same things were said last year so although the odds have increased anything can happen.

Sounds like Drouin could go down to the AHL for conditioning. Apparently if coming back from an injury, 19yo NA players can go to the AHL. Didn't know that.
