I watch the Q because it's the best hockey in town. I care who's reporting to camp because I will be watching them play live 34 times a year for the next few years and a player reporting or not will have an impact on the product i'm watching. Marino is the only draft pick that is a question mark to report that projects to be an impact player in the Q. I can name a dozen players that were entertaining as hell to watch play and develop in the Q that never went on to the NHL, and to me that's half the appeal of the Q. CIS hockey sucks and that's why nobody watches it. Small variance in skill level, no fighting and very little passion. Those dozen players are from another era (when QMJHL regular season hockey was fun to watch). It is a consensus to most that there is little passion in the regular season, yet you slam the CIS for the same. Anyone with any hockey knowledge knows the QMJHL is not the best hockey in town, but it is the most popular. Edit: Can't believe Rogan would rip CIS hockey yet watched some of those players in the QMJHL! That's funny, I could have sworn Trey Lewis played for Halifax for the past 4 years. I guess that was a different era? lol CIS is a higher level of hockey, yes. The players are bigger, faster and stronger. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out, or why. But the hockey sucks. I don't expect you to understand, though. It's ok.

John Marino is playing in the Beantown Classic tournament in Boston. It runs from August 9th-13th. If (and it seems like a big if) he does report to camp probably won't be til atleast the weekend. On the roster page for the tournament he is listed as having a committment to Yale. Would be nice to seem him show up in camp but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Its definately more polished hockey for obvious reasons. But it lacks star power draws, much bigger schedule and bigger rinks generally, and overall a lack of team allegiances given many people could care less who wins between Dalhousie and Acadia. It's not just about the X's and O's of the sport of hockey. There are other emotions involved that the CIS can't capture like a hometown CHL team can.

It lacks star power because the players have options. The CIS "stars" move on to the pros whenever they want/can. The stars in the Q have no other choice but to play in the league. 3rd liners in the CIS, were mostly all 1st liner in the CHL. They're that much older, smarter, stronger and faster. End of story, the CIS is better hockey, but the CHL provides better entertainment value, due to the arena quality, budgets for promotions and really, what's at stake for the players adds to the draw for fans.

Just curious Murph Seeing as the CIS is made up of 85% CHL players, where do the 1st and 2nd line CIS players come from?

Quality is debatable because most of us are watching hockey for entertainment value, so quality is based on that. Therefore in my mind CIS is not better quality. It is a higher level and higher calibre. But I, and I think many others agree, that really doesn't matter. There are many senior leagues and beer leagues around that are higher calibre than MAAA and those teams would mop the floor with midget teams. But I would rather watch MAAA any day of the week. Same applies in this case. Many people prefer NCAA football to NFL football for the same reasons we're discussing here.

Glad someone sensible responded. I agree, Mooseheads more fun to follow but the games aren't all that exciting anymore. You have to cherry pick the regular season games and watch the playoffs. If the players union ever becomes legitimate, it will be interesting to see if teams will have to fold or cut costs in other ways. Folding would be ok,could use less teams. But cutting costs could change the talent level. Or the costs could be passed on to the consumers and it would be up to them to decide if the price is worth it.

Not seeing your point there. 60 CHL teams, 35 CIS teams and the CIS has no age restriction, so players who may be 22 or 23 etc who have attempted pro hockey can come back and play at any time. So they're pulling from a greater pool of impact, former CHL players, either directly from the CHL, or from the AHL, ECHL etc. The 25 lesser teams, means fewer jobs, and higher calibre players playing depth roles. The quality of play in the QMJHL would go up by quite a margin if they went from 18 teams to 10.

Many people prefer NCAA football to NFL football for the same reasons we're discussing here. The NFL is the most profitable league, and the most viewed league in North America. If by "many" you mean thousands, then sure many people do prefer the NCAA. But it's not even close to a majority. NFL has been the most popular sports league for 30 years.

If by "many" you mean thousands, then sure many people do prefer the NCAA. But it's not even close to a majority. NFL has been the most popular sports league for 30 years. Thousands? That's a joke right? There are millions who prefer college over the NFL, there was a poll done as recently as this year that found that NCAA football came in third when asking asking people what their favourite sport is. Sure the NFL came in first because it is the most popular but there were still millions who said they prefer the NCAA. There are tons of states where the NCAA is a bigger deal than the NFL, I'm pretty sure OSU is a bigger deal than the browns or bengals, LSU is a bigger deal than the Saints, same with teams like Notre Dame and Michigan in their respective states. Sure the NFL is king when it comes to sports but you are greatly disrespecting the following that college football has in the states and how many actually prefer it than the NFL. Alabama has over 4 million people themselves and I bet you be hard pressed to find many that prefer the nfl to the tide or tigers. espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10354114/harris-poll-nfl-most-popular-mlb-2nd

Was just kidding Murph, I thought you were implying that the 1st and 2nd liners in the CIS came from another source. I see now you were implying that, while they were CHL players, they may have played somewhere else prior to joining the CIS. Your right on the entertainment part, and for me, the entertaining part is the development. I love watching a kid develop over 3-4 years into a star/leader/future NHLer etc... The #1 problem with the CIS is marketing. They are just horrible at it. In regards to the AUS, it starts with scheduling, and I heard it from the horses mouth that they don't give a rats ass if their games go up against the Mooseheads, Wildcats or Islanders.
