Neil Hodge ?@ttneilhodge · 7m @monctonwildcats Moncton released forward Stephan Seeger, 18, today and sent him to Summerside junior A. 27 players now left in camp. That's a bit surprising considering how well he played near the end of the season. Last 8 games he had 5 goals and 3 assists. Maybe they plan to call him back up for the last 8 games of the season this year, as that is when he actually produces offensively.

That is a little surprising to me as well although I haven't been able to make it to any of the pre-season practices or games so I don't know what he is stacked up against. From the remaining "bubble" players, in your opinion (or anyone else who wants to chime in) are those guys showing a lot more upside/potential. Secondly, releasing him still allows them to call him up I assume? From what I saw I thought he looked pretty good. Definitely more noticeable than other guys. Really surprised he was cut instead of Bower, who in my opinion showed nothing to warrant making this team in any of the intra-squad practices or preseason games. At least Seeger showed some offensive ability. I guess training over the summer in Fredricton with Shannon basically guaranteed all those guys a spot on the team.

I'm guessing the reasoning is that he wasn't going to crack the top three lines and so there wasn't really a place for him. I can certainly understand wanting to have younger guys or a Benji Curtis type on the 4th line over him.
I do feel bad for him though because I thought he looked decent out there and had obviously put in some work on his skating.

What are the waiver rules with 18 year olds? Does he stay on our list or is he outright released?

I actually think he could have fit pretty well with Barbashev and Tkachev as they have a hole in the top 6.

yup The Wildcats have signed all their returning veterans: Goaltenders Alex Dubeau and Jason Rioux, defencemen Jacob Sweeney, Matthew Klebanskyj, Garrett Johnson and Adam Holwell, and forwards Ivan Barbashev, Vladimir Tkachev, Conor Garland, Will Smith, Mathieu Olivier, Stephen Johnson, Stephan Seeger, Christophe Lalonde and Will Bower. I guess this tell you the story... "He needs to improve his physical conditioning"

Not sure what team he is coming from, but the other team is looking at trading for Wildcat prospects.
