So assuming that the list above is correct and the 55 players coming are all on the list then there are only 11 players not coming because by my count there are 66 players there. So if you cut out the players unlikely to report: Barbashev, Gendron, Koopman, RJ Murphy, Dawe, Florentino, Poirier (can't see him coming to camp since he is a 20 and has never played in the Q and th cats are bringing in 5 others who have), Macleod, Krys, McInnis, Jurusik There may be some differences but I hunk that is more than likely the players who are not coming. I think Crossman will show from what we've heard but likely pay his own way and I wouldn't be surprised if O'Leary comes for a bit even if he doesn't intend to stay. I'd be surprised if Petruzzelli shows but it would be good if he does. I wonder if the cats are only going to bring in the NCAA kids a bit later in camp like they did before so they can see them with a smaller group or if they intend for them to come at the start of camp. Why wouldn't Poirier come? It's free icetime and he lives in Moncton. It will get him prepared for Jr.A season. I just don't see the reason Moncton would do it other than to even up numbers on the intersquad teams or to be nice and help him get ice time before camp in Dieppe. He doesn't really have a chance to crack the roster being 20 so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense like Billy said for why he is still on the list.

Moncton has added 4 more free agents to their roster and so there are more likely more than 11 players not coming. Brandon Worthen (former Halifax prospect), Brendan Bornestein, Jamie Penney as defenceman and Marc-Antoine Lebrasseur as a goalie. I wonder how many goalies they plan to bring to Camp. There are 13 listed so are they planning on bringing around 10 goalies? Seems like a lot even if some of the veterans only start to play mid camp.

I think usually they only bring 8 goalies to camp max. Bornstein played with the Klimas I think 2 years ago, must be a connection. I think these 4 FA invites indicate that some "NCAA" guys are not coming to camp, so they get new invites to have a certain number of F D and G. No doubt there won't be 13 goalies in camp, that makes no sense at all. There are 23 d-men on the list, I'm sure quite a few...Gendron Krys MacLeod Florentino McInnis Poirier... won't be there. Mann is another that has no chance at cracking the roster so he may not be there...

Considering they spent a fourth round pick (their third overall pick in the 2014 draft) it would have to be considered a pretty big waste if they can't get McInnis to report.
We'll see when the training camp roster comes out, but it seems like the Cats have been trying to be the Q's version of the London Knights with "NCAA guys" and are failing pretty badly at it.

Same for Crossman and O'Leary. Both were 3rd round picks. Can't afford to waste top 5 picks, especially with the cupboards not very deep and no 1st round pick on the roster since 2009 I believe. Last player actually drafted in the 1st rd was Shea and he only lasted a year. Have to hit with a lot of 2nd to 5th rounders.

at the moment, the defense for 2016-17 is not pretty. Only Holwell and Malatesta with milage. Tesink needs to be improved. Glassl is a ? right now. Chance to have Krys or McInnis seem slim.
We selected 3 D last june. Hope 1 of them is good enough make the team soon.
I'm ready to trade Garland and Sweeney in December to get some players for next 2 seasons.

It seems like the Cats may be higher on Bornstein than a regular free agent. Hockeyscene has an article that says that not only did he go to the UNB camp at the Wildcats request but also went to ROthesay Netherwood last season because the cats wanted him to go too. I guess I'll have to watch him a bit closer.

The best thing for the franchise long term might be to have a slow start and move 2-3 big assets at midseason to set up the next 3-4 years a lot better. Garland and Sweeney are no brainers, Malatesta and Smith, both 19 could also be options at the right price.

I can't believe they're not following your advice!

I can't believe they're not following your advice! If they had done it 3 years ago they'd probably have much deeper cupboards. May have had the horses to actually contend with Rimouski Quebec and co last year. ...another thing is, in this league, it's hard to build a contender without 1st round picks and top 20-25 Euro picks. Even if you can add 1-2 impact US guys, it's not enough for that strong 10-12 player core you need to win.

Although Shannon has been very stingy about giving away draft picks since he took over recognizing the issue it causes. We're in much better shape on picks now than we have been in ages. And the LaLonde trade helped. And they tried to switch Sweeney for Donaghey until he got hurt. As they said, the strategy is to be steadily competitive every year as opposed to the up and down waves. I expect they will wait for some of their gambles to work out before they make another push, i.e. A strong base to work from. In the meantime, they will evaluate how the team does until Christmas and then make a decision on whether to offload a few.

any word on who goes yet between Sweeney and Johnston?.rumors? My guess is, they keep Sweeney but they want to wait until he returns from pro camp. I think he has a try out with an AHL team.
