Things are pretty quiet lately, just thought I would throw out a few comments on this years team. In goal, it looks like Belanger along with whoever wins the backup role. On defence, we seem to be pretty much settled unless one of the veterans is moved to make more icetime for Beaudoin, if not, he could be penciled in at Number 7 again. Up front, there has been some comments about a lack of depth. Following the draft, I think that probably has been addressed. Barring any further acquisitions, we have a pretty solid top 9 to start with in Svechnelov,Lavaev,Bishop,Dubois,Ranger, Fournier,Martineau,Bowers and Hoyt. The way Dumont mixes and matches lines, we could see any number of combinations within this group but this looks pretty solid to me.

We already moved a vet to make room for Beaudin in the top 6.

That might just be the best trade made by Dumont (aside from Roy) since he's been in Cape Breton. Fournier is going to be a force the next couple of seasons. I was shocked Victoriaville trade him , considering he plays the kind of game that Victo loves. On top of that , they added to acquire Lalonde. Both promising young players but Fournier could develop into a Lucic type player this season. The Eagles are looking to make some serious noise this season and I'd be surprised if they didn't win the division.

However I do think this will be a bit different. They changed the attitude of the locker room and the leadership structure. I think losing Hinds and Anderson will hurt, but they beefed up that forward line quite a bit. Not only that, but it looks like it should be good going forward a few years.

I'm not convinced by Belanger. That to me is going to be key for how things go but they have the assets to correct it if needed.
1 more top six forward and a goalie and things looking good

Andersen and hinds turned this team around with their grit/energy and forecheck. Subtracting the negative players in bell, Darcy and brassard and adding those guys makes me trust Dumont as a gm. If we have any issues come Xmas I believe he won't hesitate too fix them. Goaltending may need upgrading. We also need a top 4 defenseman. Really hoping macintyre/de champs show improvements. Finally depending on free agents/ player development, we may need a top 6 guy. Still work to be done, but Dumont has this team prepped for a run and the future secure.

He's not one of the A guys in the league but one of the next tier ones. CB need to work on their overall defensive game and they will be fine in net. Another forward that can play mid 6 would be something they might need to add. They have some depth but not a lot. If one of the top line guys go down Ranger can jump up easily. But who takes Ranger spot on the second line?

Perhaps Martineau could fill that role. I expect that Dumont may want to give him some more opportunities this year. he is an eighteen year old now and was really a pleasant surprise last year.IMO, he was one of our best PK guys last year. Just might be coming into his own.

Just might be coming into his own. Long term Martineau could be a top 2 center but on a contender in his 2nd season he'd an ideal 3rd line center who can move up/down based on injuries and other factors. Bishop is really a #2 guy. Svechnikov will be given the #1 C role but I know personally I prefer him as a winger and I think we will see a move at Xmas geared more towards putting him on the wing for the stretch drive. If after the trade period we're going with a new #1 then Bishop/Martineau/Bowers down the middle we will be pretty tough to handle.

Bowers will be better than Velano right away but Velano has a higher ceiling. Velano had similar stats in a stronger midget league at a younger age. I'd bet Velano is the best player coming out of this draft, this season. Not even sure it'll be that close. If you look at Lac St.louis, he was 6 points behind Brushett and they had 4 50 point guys. On Bowers' team he was 16 points(52 to 36) ahead of the #2 guy and had twice as many points as the #4 guy. Veleno would have had a much better supporting case in LSL while Bowers could have a better one than Veleno next year in the Q.

where Svechnikov plays might very well be dictated by which team drafts him. the NHL a teams carry a lot of clout with their draft picks in how they are developed, a sometimes whether or not they should be traded. we have seen that happen here before and most recently in this years Memorial Cup where Leon Drysydle was traded in junior at the request of his NHL GM so he would get the exposure of playing. Well into the spring.

I agree that I would like to see Svechnikov on the wing with a true number one center. I love Bishop as a number 2. I am still a little skeptical of one of Deschamps or MacIntyre on the second pairing on a competitive team but feel a defenseman and a top line center will come at the next trading deadline. Also feel that Belanger will do fine assuming this team can tigthen up their play in their own end. That to me is the huge issue and hope that this current coaching staff can implement that.
