Meanwhile.... Halifax and Quebec can't face each other until the Presidents Cup no matter how the Rimouski/Gatineau series goes - If Halifax and Quebec both win 6 more games (they both lead series 2-0) then Halifax will qualify as the Q rep in the Memorial Cup
Never saw that coming...

The Johnson hit was the 2nd time that a 4-minute penalty has been called on a play like that. The vast, vast majority of double minors are caused by a high-stick that draws blood. The official rule is that a minor penalty that causes physical injury (blood, lost tooth etc) is subject to a double minor. A lot of times in the regular season, that call is a 5 minute major. The league must have put it out there to stop calling 5 minute majors in that situation. I don't mind that at all. Whether or not a player returns to the game or not shouldn't determine the punishment on the play. Agreed. This is the league that has been known to reverse calls after the game to take things like match penalties away later (see Erne v Drouin 2014) and it looks bush league. This way they have ability to add punishment later due to severity and makes it less automatic just because a ref goes and punishes more because he thought it was worse at first glance. (I only suggested a 5 earlier in this thread because deke was lobbying for a 5 on Bent...the Ehlers hit was worse but neither should be a suspension)

The League so wants Quebec to win the Memorial Cup that they want a "weak team " from the middle of the Maritime Division to represent the Q along with Quebec. So that Les Remparts have a better chance of winning the cup. 6 more Remparts wins + 6 more Mooseheads wins = Hfx guaranteed a cup birth... why not run with this one for a while...I would be more amused.

So you can drive guys head first into the boards as much as u want as long as they don't get hurt?? I think the suspension is to make players more conscious of what they are doing out there. It is a deterant....or is suposed to be. Hunter is still out and Leblanc is just coming back.

Sorry for the poor quality, I downloaded a free screen recorder to capture this.
I'm obviously biased but to me I see Ehlers making a quick turn and it catches Johnson off guard and he actually loses his footing before making contact with Ehlers. Safe to say, Ehlers didn't look like someone who would be back on the ice shortly after but no one was really surprised. The reputation doesn't lie.

Just watched it again 2 minute boarding at best. And no suspension if ehlers was a 3 or 4th liner

It's 2 games... if Moncton wins the next two, none of you will give a shit about Ehlers. But if blaming him for your team getting spanked helps you sleep at night, go for it.

You're not even making sense. What was called properly? Are you saying the Johnson hit was called properly? You just said it wasn't suspendable. I'm making perfect sense. You saying Ehlers "launched" himself into the boards, is foolish. And I'm saying the play was called correctly. Johnson's penalty, was appropriate. No suspension warranted. So are you still thinking you're making sense? You're saying the play was called correctly yet you're saying no suspension was warranted. Which is it because it's not both? "The Play was called correctly" to me means on and off the ice.

Not vicious. But IMO Johnson doesn't need to follow through on a hit there. Ehlers was away from the boards when contact was made. As with most suspendible plays, I've seen suspensiosn given for not as severe a play, and I've seen worse hits not given a suspension.

This is not on who won the games or not they are comments on ehlers and suspension. Far more reasons to wildcats loses

Palov tweeted a video with another angle too...
I have no problem with a suspension there. Pretty clear shove from behind to a player in a dangerous position.
