Even if the league was stable financially the way the rosters rules are its pretty ridiculous. Its run like a fantasy keeper league, you keep 5 guys and the rest go into a redraft the following year. Don't bother getting attached to any players because they'll either not be kept or if they are good they will just leave for Europe since the salaries are terrible. Pretty hard for any rivalries develop when the monthly roster turnover is comparable to a call center in Moncton. There was some decent skill on display here in the games I've watched but the bottomline is in order for me to invest in a sport I need to know im getting something in return. A league that can't even have a legit champion crowned has zero point. I noticed how they say they're reaching out to Jimmy Dorsey as if the CBU basketball program is bringing in a ton of cash or something. Shouldnt a league like be looking at former NCAA stars to fill out rosters rather then former CIS players? I guess you get what you pay for at the end of the day. For the most part the team in Moncton has had combination of Div 1 and Div 2 NCAA players and guys who have made their way through the europe circuit. For a few years also had a player from Crandall University that did not belong on the court, Crandall is not even an AUS basketball program. I believe they replaced him with a guy who played for UNB the last couple seasons. There is some decent talent in the league, more talent than youd see anywhere else in the maritimes. Though I'd think a school like Carleton University who frequently shows up in halifax for national championships could give these teams a run for their money. The talent level is not such a concern, but the league is a circus, there is no stars for anyone to latch on to. Im looking at the Miracles roster page right now and I dont even recognize a single player and i have followed the team on social media since the inception. As someone who closely follows local sports here that is an issue. The price is not much cheaper than a Q game and there are far less basketball fans here than hockey.. The league simply has never found an identity from the get go and most people do not take it seriously as the only media attention it ever got was the Halifax story last season.

Not true. I'd say the % of teams that make the NBL playoffs is less than teams that make the playoffs in the QMJHL. Look, the QMJHL used to be a lot of fun to watch, but somewhere along the way, the intensity has been lost, the characters are gone, etc. You have to cherry pick QMJHL regular season games to attend. I do go to every QMJHL playoff game the Mooseheads are in though. QMJHL playoff hockey is still fun. What do you mean not true? Last year there were 8 teams in the league, all 8 teams made the playoffs, what math are you doing that results in 100% being less than the 2 out of 16 teams that miss the Q playoffs? A league that cannot even manage to have a final game played will never get an ounce a credibility from me. I am a season ticket holder in Moncton and out of 34 home regular season games plus a terrific playoffs i can count maybe 2 games that I walked away from disappointed last season in regards to getting my moneys worth, win or loss. You must not remember how good the hockey was during the Wildcats first 10 years.

Maybe next year. But maybe investors not rushing to fork over donations of money to sink into a losing ship might be a sign.

It is probably the best decision they could make. This league is on shaky ground as it is and so the first impression that Sydney fans get needs to be a strong one. If they come across as not ready and "mickey mouse" because they rushed a product to market then it could have a very negative effect on the team going forward.

How about a university hockey team? That'd be much more interesting.

How about a university hockey team? That'd be much more interesting. Not if you can't attract high end talent. You'd be a perennial bottom feeder if you can't attract players of a high calibre.

Isn't both the basketball and soccer team fairly competitive at cbu? Who's to say they couldn't attract some solid hockey players as well.
