Entirely speculating here, but I don't see why CB wouldn't have a pretty good reputation in Euro circles? We've graduated quite a few to the NA pro game in the last decade, and have a pretty good record of sticking with them and giving them a chance? I can only think of Nizovkin as an exception to that. I think one thing we kind of all didn't take into consideration was how much an organization's circumstance dictates how you need to operate as a GM. I didn't give it much thought until Sly's comments at the town hall, but now it seems obvious. You're right that this might be a completely different situation for him. agreed, and yup exactly. Euro situation is very different for each team in the league. It also involves contacts and good rapport with player agents. One year with a pick in the top 3 they drafted a Russian kid who showed up with skates that were trash and with an early 2nd round pick they got a kid playing in a 3rd tier US jr league. Courtesy of player agent Gilles Lupien, personal friend of Sly. Both were total busts. It's not always about money.

Because if so your comparing Apples to Oranges. Blainville paid us big for Lawrence at the draft and had a great stock of higher end players available to them when they decided to sell. We currently have plenty of draft stock left to spend, and luckily won't need to buy many more players for the next couple years.

Interested to see what happens with us during day 1 of the 2023 draft.
We have our own first which may be inside the top 7-8 picks, along with the rumour that another first will be coming over from Drummondville?
SJ 2nd will also be a "borderline first" as well.
Any theories on how we will plan to spend these picks?

I'd expect veterans to be added with high picks. 8 1sts and 2nds over the next 2 drafts and I'dd guess that 6 at minimum are traded by this time next year primarily for older players.

Once we figure out the final return for Langlois, it'll be interesting to see where we actually have holes at. We know for sure 2 new Euros needed, hopefully add 2 18s to match with our cycle. Biggar, Boutin and (?) as OA. Herbert and Shortall don't strike me as impact overagers on a team looking to leap into the upper part of the standings. Alot of returning players are bought and paid for already which leads to the question of how they will spend the 8 high picks we have over the next 2 drafts.

Chicoutimi 1st (16th) coming back for Chicoutimi 2nd my mistake for some reason some of the posters in the Chicoutimi thread on the french board for the last week or so think that Chicoutimi's 2024 1st will go back to them at the draft and the Eagles would get defenceman Matteo Mann who'd be a 19 next season.

Interesting, IMO giving said 1st up for potentially 1 year of Mann wouldn't be a great deal for us. If I had to take an educated guess, I would say we would be running Schmitt, Ruccia, and Newcombe as OA 2004's so Matteo Mann coming in for 1 season for a first not in the "go for it" year doesn't make a ton of sense.
