Moncton's request to borrow 94.5 million from the province has been approved.

What was the deadline that they wanted to have federal money committed by? With the election going on now, and parliament being dissolved the earliest Moncton could expect a commitment would be after the October election Didn't they want it before then?

Although the Feds have not come out and said "we will provide funding for an events center", they have been indirectly providing funding for infrastructure projects that allows Moncton to free up extra funds for the building. I believe there's about 25 million earmarked from the Feds for projects like this which is not something they would normally do. The Jonathan Creek upgrades are one example. Feds gave over 1 million for that and there are lots of street projects around town like this.

Can't wait for the details to emerge in coming days/weeks re design and timeline for construction.

Good thing Hicks or Bourgeois are not mayor, the City would never host anything or progress.

Somebody should be there to expose the downside of things.

I tend to agree that Hicks plays a valuable role on council - can't just have a bunch of yes men. His objections are usually rational and well explained and generally add to the conversation. Not as sold on Bourgeois though ... And agree with Catnut that neither would seem to be a good fit in the mayor's chair.

Can you guys fill me in on why the Coliseum needs to be replaced? Yes , I could research very simply by using Google but why bother when you guys are here?
I took in one whole game at the Colisium and I noticed the location sucked and the atmosphere. I am definitely missing something. I take it you guys need something with more capacity?

Coliseum was built in the early 70s - needs to either undergo major renos or be replaced. Main complaints are lack of modern ventilation and cooling which makes for crappy ice in spring and fall, as well as unbearable heat for spectators, odd design with ceiling too low for many major acts, and frequent inavailability due to trade show use as part of Agrena complex.

Engineering will take the better part of a year. Once they break ground it should be 18 months ... or a little more. Sent from my SM-G925W8 using proboards

A lot of the planning surely had to be done before different levels of government would get involved.
