This is the year to make the trade - add to this year's good crop to enhance team success. For Dumont's benefit, it's better to appear improved now over last year & then trade much latter for a chance of appearing about the same next year again - longer term mediocrity instead of making a go at it when you have strength in hand. Hey when you're talking about a 16 year old, the parents ARE the decision makers - that you live with.

Oh I absolutely agree a trade should be made, we can legitimately win a title this year with some reinforcements. I'm just saying, there was a time that Bowers was going to be playing here, then it fell through or something unfortunately, Dumont took a gamble, it didn't pay off and now hes in a tough spot but I'd hope he sees the bigger picture here and just trades Shane.

$$$$$$$$$$........Why isn't anybody posting the real reason ? It's very much not about money. It's about Waterloo vs Cape Breton and the parents decided Waterloo is the best move for their son for right now. If it were Waterloo vs Halifax or Saint John maybe the kid is in the Q, but the family was uncomfortable with Cape Breton Eagles for their reasons. Maybe that will change next year or as the season goes on who knows. You can't even offer education packages anymore like you used to be able to.

Maybe the kid goes to Waterloo and doesn't like it there?

Maybe the kid goes to Waterloo and doesn't like it there? He could also go there and like it so much that he no longer has interest in Saint John or Halifax.

I know Dumont is towing the line and saying he's not trading Bowers. But what do you expect him to say - I'm trading Bowers as soon as I can, have to get rid of him asap. He's saying this stuff because the fan base wants to hear it, if you talked to the fans a majority say they like this move and approve it. I know this doesn't make hockey sense but it make sense from the motives of appeasing the fans.
In my opinion, he's hoping for a good first half that will entice Bowers to report at Christmas. And if he doesn't report then will trade him for the assets to help put us over the hump.
The pressure to trade Bowers is not now but at Christmas. Championships are not won before Christmas and they aren't build on the backs of 16 year olds.

CB had both the good and bad last year an underacheiving regular season but a 7 game series against a team 1 goal from winning the league. Maybe he wants to see what the team really has to offer this year because right now its only a contender on paper.

Wouldn't you think there should be some concern from Brisson / Parents that he may slide a little bit in the eyes of Hockey Canada because he may be a little bit removed from the main area of focus of their Scouts ......not totally removed but not getting the attention of those taken just ahead of him or those taken just behind ?

No concern whatsoever. The USHL continues to rise in stature & US hockey interests ensure that will continue. You're naive to think that the Q or CB would not be his only viable option.

i think some people are picking the wrong person for drawing the line in the sand! i think it was his agent flexing his muscle . CB is not in a position to offer big guaranteed money to a 16 yr old unproven player. What did he get Crosbie in Rim? a buck a seat....what did he get Mackinnon in halifax??? a buck a seat(both representented by Brisson)....what does Cb get to offer him? a roster spot.....so when the line was drawn in the sand by the agent there was no turning back...... if CB management caves in and trades then what happens to next years draft picks when CB is not in a "go for it year". The league should initiate a rule that if you commit before the draft to be drafted into the CHL and dont report then your are ineligible to play in the CHL until after your first year of NHL draft eligibility is over...so bowers would not be eligible until 2018.
