Cormier was great to watch early on, but eventually all he did was the "staged" fights which I think are stupid. Nothing like some sincere fisticuffs in a game.
After watching the sport pretty much get rid of the goons, I have to disagree.
Sincere fisticuffs belong in an octagon or ring between 2 people doing it for a living. Not as a part of a team sport involving outscoring another team.
I guess in your eyes I am not much of a fan then. If a fight breaks out due to a play on the ice then I am fine with that. Not line brawls, just 1 fight. I just think it was ridiculous when you would have a staged fight of our tough guy against your tough guy then afterwards they are shaking hands and patting each other on the ass. What is the point.
I am fine with hockey today and don't necessarily have to see a fight. I grew watching hockey in the late 70's on, so I know where we came from and where we are now in regards to fighting and I am fine with it.

Who said anything about not being much of a fan? What does that even mean to a grown adult?
Children may like to decide who is more of a fan but I don't have time for that.
You can enjoy many different aspects of the sport and still be a fan.
The staged fights that everyone hates are the only ones that should really belong as they were usually between 2 fighters. The mutual respect was actually good to see at times. But a fighter on the bench to 'keep the other team honest' is the equivalent to having a shotgun under your bed in case someone breaks in. It doesn't stop the stupid thing from happening, and in the end the 2 wrongs don't actually solve anything.
In fact more stupid things happened then with fighters sitting on the bench then happen now. Why is that?
Moose fan did you say cheap shots on star players? So you are going to set up a two tiered system. One for stars and one for the rest? Please explain how that works? And to the other poster on the Shelley comment. It probably took him more hard work and determination to play 11 yrs in the show than a big percentage of players that make it. Just my opinion
Canadiens Montréal @canadiensmtl 40m40 minutes ago .@fucale31 recalled from @icecapsahl, @dustintokarski reassigned to St. John's, who will play 3 games on Dec 2-4-5. bit.ly/1Nm4bzH
Interesting that they'd do this when St. John's is playing so much this week... and he's the starter. I understand calling up Tokarski to sit on the bench, but why do it to your starting AHL goaltender?
Tokarski has not started a game in 5 weeks. They sent him to AHL so he could play all 3 games this week. Fucale won't get an NHL start.

I was talking to a fellow Mooseheads fan last week- what we agreed upon with respect to fighting was to go to a game and know that a fight could potentially happen due to physical play. I don't have to see a fight every period and if none happen in a game but I'm entertained in spite of that then that is what I want.
The problem with the Q is that the Q wants a league with no hitting along with no fighting... in other words, boring hockey. I wish the Q was as vigilant on cheap shots to star players as it is on eliminating fighting.
The league is turning boring as f***. Unless your team is at the top of the league and a surefire contender there isn't much to go for. For me, the Mooseheads are at the bottom or close to the bottom of their cycle but I know they should be back within a couple years so that keeps me coming back. Peeps want to be entertained- sure you can advocate for player safety and such but if you chase away fans then you are losing money in the long run.
It's not about wanting no hitting...it's hitting that doesn't try and take guys' heads off.
With all the data coming in on concussions, the last thing the league wants is for a bunch of their best players to be out with concussions.
Unfortunately, less huge hits and fights hurts the entertainment value but protects the kids' future. Which is really more important in the big picture? Think about the fact that 21 or 22 or the 23 players on each team won't be making a living playing hockey...

The problem is that you see at least 1-2 hits a game that are legal , and not head shots, which are called for boarding in this league now. I have actually seen charging penalties called where a player , who is standing completely still, braces themselves for a hit and puts the hitting player on their ass and they are the ones who get the charging penalty. WTF??
NCAA is calling head shots all the time now and kicking players out for deliberately targetting the head but at least there is video review to make sure the ref made the right call.
Honestly, I think the biggest problem in the Q is the reffing- there is so much inconsistency from ref to ref and even within the context of a game where refs are inconsistent from period to period. Star players are hacked in this league at will, it is disgusting. As much as I would have loved having Ehlers back for this year I am glad he is in the NHL and away from this joke of a league after the crap he put up with last year and for Drouin the year before.
I hate the instigator rule- all it means is that a player can cheapshot an opposing player and not have to answer for it because the instigator gets 2,5,10.
A big reason why I haven't cancelled season tickets during this rebuild for the Mooseheads is that despite the fact the Mooseheads are rebuilding and won't contend for a couple years at least is the way that Ducharme has them play. Too many coaches would have them sit back and play a boring trap system but Ducharme's system puts pressure on the puck all over the ice and preaches puck possession even though the team is very young and has trouble doing it against most teams on a consistent basis.
I don't want to see head shots, nobody does. I just want to go to Mooseheads games and be entertained with skilled hockey- too many games are ruined by incompetent referees. It is pretty bad when Todd Thomander is actually one of the decent refs that come into Scotiabank Center now; Webber may not agree with that statement though .

The thing about the refs is they are caught in the middle, not to make excuses for them, but they have to apply these new rules to protect players and at the same time they want to "let them play" to a certain extent so it doesn't turn into a parade to the box.
Feeling bad for Ehlers - Jets are struggling right now in a slump yet Ehlers is wasted on the third line with two linemates who (literally) cant even keep up with him.

Yah they might as well send him back to Junior. He'd look great on either Val d'Or or Rouyn Noranda.
One positive about Ehlers is he isn't taking stupid penalties like he did at times here. It would be easy for him to be frustrated considering how well he started and how his last 20 games have gone.

He has competent referees at the NHL level unlike the Q
