That is only a starter though. They will need a lot more then just that to be competitive next year. They don't have a lot of assets to trade to build a team as is. What would be left to after getting Booth? I think people might actually appreciate and be more interested in going to see young players grow. Not a full rebuild but a slight retooling might make keep the fans better then a mid pack team. Yeah , watching young players grow could be fun ....your right ! "BUT" that usually is more enjoyable ( I would think ) if it comes on the heels of actually accomplishing something worthwhile and not what the majority owner ( only ) thinks is a worthwhile accomplishment . I'm looking forward to seeing guys like Hoyt and Bisson next year. Hoyt played well when given a chance and Bisson was our second best defenseman behind Leblanc against Saint John. Another thing, Boucher will be a year older and the kids a beast. It'll be interesting to see if he bulked up anymore during the summer.

Outstanding coach! The 2014-15 team wasn't supposed to be a contender last year! Finishing as a .500 team was all part of the plan to get the fans excited!

Watching our last core grow resulted in more hair pulling then most fans expected and was followed up with zero playoff payoff in terms of fulfilling any expectations people had. Just goes to show that we're not concerned with competing with the top teams, we're in survival mode that only evaluates our seasons against ourselves meaning to owners we can never do any wrong unless we lose a pile of cash very quickly. I keep reading comment here and on social media about how hard the Eagles have it in attracting players. They buy into the draft picks not reporting yet ignore the 2 NHL 1st rounders on a team that looked to defeat itself more then its opponents defeated it. Add in the poor GM moves such as 20's like Gosselin, using 2nd round picks to acquire average players, the constant draft fiascos, sticking with a God awful goaltending coach, only removing assistants when they choose to leave.... Not 1 person will be held accountable for what one of our most respected posters called "the worst loss since 2004" yet ownership will expect no change in fan interest or sponsorship levels? How else is the community supposed to reach but with outrage? When we were completely embarrassed by Gatineau it was supposed to be a part of the growing pains. When we couldn't get out of round 1 in 2015 vs Quebec it was the unfortunate luck of the draw in facing the Mem Cup host while ignoring the disaster of a regular season that got us to that point. When we couldn't beat SJ this year after another disappointing regular season there was nothing from the GM or ownership until a contract extension was announced. Nothing was done to prevent the obvious outcomes or make sure that the last season didn't follow into the next. I believe I personally predicted the outcomes of the last 2 playoffs on the final day of each seasons trading periods. Now some fans just want to see a middle of the pack team. Even though the best we got from the last core with 2 star Euros, an upcoming NHL 1st rounder elite impact forward, a D that cost a mint to acquire, Joly that cost a lot, Fiore, Carozza, Belanger...was a team right in the middle of the league standings. A certain percentage of our fan base is starting to develop the attitude of ownership that we must not compete with the Halifax'a and Saint John's because they get better players. Completely ignoring the wealth of talent we were able to acquire and completely waste in terms of getting any team success out of.

Right on Jack. given the lack of success with a very talented group of players surely indicated that coaching was a problem with this team not going further in the playoffs, I think it would have been acceptable to do what Halifax did a few years back when they removed Russell from the dual jobs & made him G/M & hired a head coach. I anticipated a similar move would be made in CB & was really surprised that they again gave Dumont a two year contract for both positions & unfortunately the people who will pay for this is the fans.

It was also proof that even an average GM can turn some luck into a team capable of being successful. Getting the #1 pick for Roy was luck. Having it at a time where there was a small window to exploit maximum compensation was luck. Same thing with Svechnikov as it came via other relationships. Imagine what an above average GM could do? Or an above average coach?

I guess this belongs under a different header. with the question of Mr.Dumont's job status finally being answered. I am somewhat baffled by some of Mr. Cote's views, with regard to Mr. Dumont's leadership. 1) "significant strides forward". Well this was a team in rebuild. Therefore any person qualified to assume the position would be expected to have moved the team forward. I think it's fair to assume that the goal for this years team, from as far back as 3 years ago, was to be a top contender, at least a top 3 team. We barely finished 7th. 2) "on the ice". This team expended high draft picks and trades to build a top defence, and goaltending. For most of the year, we were among the worst goals against in the league. We did have a somewhat gain in the 2nd half to finish around mid pack. Still, I would assume, far from the established goal. We also had a number of players apparently wanting out of Cape Breton. IMO, higher than most teams. 3) "draft success". We had 3 successive years that a 1st rounder would not report. To top that off, the team still has not seemed to report on the Bowers back in the draft report. 4) "free agency" success. IMO, we have gone backward in this area. 5) "import players". Yes we have had success there. But we also had some high picks. Lazarev was 3rd overall, and while he is a very good hockey player, some other organizations have also faired quite well with high end Euro picks.

In fact the evidence will support the opposite but in 3 weeks we might actually see something different. Maybe for once he'll take the best player that will report instead of BPA. Also maybe he will actually go to this up coming draft and like I said earlier he might look to go with a bit of a youth movement. All I'm saying is before everyone get to worked up maybe wait and see his approach at the draft. If he starts wheeling and dealt for players let the guy have it. If he starts making deal for the future what will the general feel be?

And as an add on to points 4 and 5... 4) What FA's did we bring in that were big successes under Dumont? Do you mean Sorrentino who Halifax picked up for free when we deemed him not even worth being a bottom 6 forward? We've definitely gone backwards in an area that we were among the best in the league at 8-10 years ago. 5) Success in areas such as import, of FA's for that matter, do not translate into future success. Drafting Lazarev and Svechnikov and them both reporting doesn't get you a replacement of that caliber. It means you drafted well in the past but that has zero to do with how you draft in the future. Most of us would be happy with simply getting 1 warm body here to play a top 6 F/top 4 D role from our 2 Euro picks this year to put it into perspective. Just because we managed to have 2 really good ones for the first time ever doesn't earn us any special credit in future drafts.

However, there is something to be said about how Dubois has grown in Cape Breton. It's a decent selling point... and, as I've mentioned before, Andrei Svechnikov is up for grabs next year. Could score you some points there.

The success of the team they play for, however, is dependent on those factors. We all know that if a kid doesn't want to play here like Roy or Bowers that they're not going to buy anything you sell them on Dubois. Bowers didn't with Svechnikov and Dubois here...2 top 20 NHL picks. We can sit here for a year and think/dream/hope for Svechnikov's brother but that seems a bit far fetched to me as there's way too much unknown. Perhaps because of who his brother is the Russians get him to commit to staying before the CHL is even considered. Certainly not something you should put the hopes of the future on. You could wait all year for that pick to come and watch someone grab him right before you knowing how the Euro draft unfolds.

See that Martin Laperriere is not returning to the Quebec Rempats. Long time head coach and assistant coach in the Q, primarily looks after the defence. Possible replacement for Izzard?

Last thing Dumont wants is someone who is more qualified than he is on his staff . The Pepsi Guy more or less said they were not in a position to split the GM and Coaching Duties ....$$$$$$$.....so I highly doubt they will shell out the necessary $$$$$$$ to bring a guy like him in . Drink Coke .......
