The NB final has Moncton vs SJ. Moncton won game one 10-1 and then Saint John won game two 6-2 ... both winning at home. Odd scores for a final. They play again tonight in Moncton.

And we still wait for a close game! This game was 1-0 SJ after one period. Moncton must have made some adjustments after one.

Is the SJ goalie Sheehan from Moncton, I think he played BAAA in Moncton last year then SJ this year... Yes. He is one of if not the strongest 15 year old goalies in NB ... but got cut from the Flyers in the Fall (can be hard for a 15 year old goalie to break in on a strong team). Was playing minor midget in Moncton, when at some point the Vitos lost their starting goalie for the season - not exactly sure if it was an injury, or parting of the ways for some other reason - thought I heard he left to play high school, but not sure. In any event, at that point Sheehan surfaced with the Vitos, and has been there number one goalie ... not sure what the deal is with whoever they have as backup, but Sheehan played the entire game even when they lost 10-1, and has played every playoff game in the entirety. Also not sure if Sheehan reverts to being Flyers property for next season, or if whatever release he got means he remains with the Vitos going forward. He definitely lives in Moncton and commutes to Saint John to play with the Vitos.

The scores are very lop sided with both teams victories, very strange how they can both be so good and the next game be so bad ?

Strange setup. Generally unfamiliar with this league. Like I know it exists and some of the teams, but not how it functions. Do the PEI and New Brunswick winners play for a championship?

Nope ... the NB teams compete for a league championship to go to the Atlantics ... the two PEI teams play to determine PEI champion to go to Atlantics. NB should have 3 or 4 more teams to improve parity and develop more kids for the next level. Moncton region could easily have two teams. Moncton has been in the League final 13 yrs in a row so something needs to change. Even better ... have one big Maritime Major Midget league.

With more and more kids leaving to go to prep school instead of playing major midget as a 15 YO, the NBPEIMM is becoming a weaker league to play in. The weaker the league is, the harder it is to keep top prospects playing in it. Adding more teams would just water down the league even more, adding kids that won't be playing at the next level regardless.
A maritime major midget league would awesome, but I'm guessing logistics would make it impossible. A NB team going to Cape Breton would be a 6 hour drive. That length would mean staying overnight and then the costs of running the team would be huge.

Moncton has been in the League final 13 yrs in a row so something needs to change. Even better ... have one big Maritime Major Midget league. The idea of a Maritime Major Midget League would be an interesting one. As for adding teams in NB ... years ago (probably 20 or so) there used to be more Midget AAA teams in the province. There is an argument to be made on both sides for player development - with four teams, the overall calibre of the four is higher than if you had 8 teams. When playing teams outside our region, it would appear we are at approximately the right number of teams - top teams like the Flyers are competitive against many of the top teams in the country, but in no way dominant. If we went to an 8 team league, you can pretty much guarantee no one would be competing against teams from Quebec, Ontario and the West. So while more players would get an opportunity to play, the level they are playing at would be reduced ... which would seemingly help some late bloomers, but hurt the truly elite kids who are most likely to be destined for a higher level. The Moncton dominance is yet another issue ... geography of the province being what it is, they have four teams. If each team carries 20 players, that is 80 kids playing major midget. The problem is, year in and year out, if you take the best 80 players in the province, 30 or so of them reside in the Moncton territory. Having a team in Bathurst, while geographically convenient for the North, results in a competitive imbalance ... in any given, there are probably only 10 of the top 80 players residing on their territory. One solution would be to move them back to Miramichi (or perhaps even as far south as Richibucto) and have all of the West Kent kids assigned to that team rather than the Flyers. But in case that seems to easy ... if you do that, a bunch of Shediac and Bouctouche kids would probably just decide to play for LJR or Clement Cormier if their choice was to otherwise travel to Miramichi to play major midget. No easy solution - solving one problem tends to create another.
