Apparently the players want to keep the cap lower to reduce escrow, so around 81.5 or 82M, this puts a few teams with RFA’s in a very tight situation like LV, Toronto, TB and Pit who are at or near the cap will have to move bodies.

Taylor Hall isn't wanting to sign longterm with them.... could Subban for Hall be this summers blockbuster?

Brian Burke was saying that between now and the Draft and on to July 1st , the NHL is gonna be extremely busy .....it's been pretty active already . Every year we're told how busy it's going to be. Outside of a blockbuster 25 minutes or so 3 years ago it's usually been under whelming. Even now it's been active...but it's Kevin Hayes and Radko Gudas moving around and people re-signing. I'll be shocked if i'm shocked by much at this point. Hopefully there's some excitement by someone viewing a Toronto Raptor example as a good reason to take a shot at winning.

If there's an extension to Hall I could see that happening.

If there's an extension to Hall I could see that happening. Subban at 9M cap hit the way he played last year, it may be just a cap dump or getting 50-60% of value. I think we'll see a few trades where guys move cheap(er) to free up cap room. I think TB may have to move a couple of guys to sign Point. TB has 5.9M of cap room, point will cost 9-10M, maybe more to sign. Plus that only gets them to 11F 6D and 2G. They also have Stralman(UFA) Paquette(RFA) Erne(RFA) to (try and) retain. I heard they were trying to move Callahan but not willing to include a 1st rounder. They may have to shed 2 or 3 of Killorn Johnson Miller or Palat. They also need to extend Vasilevskiy Segachev and Cirelli next summer.

Trouba and Niskanen are bigger names than Gudas. If we see 4-5 top 6 guys move plays the UFA market stays as is(Bobrovsky Panarin Duchene Myers Pavelski Gardiner Lee Nyquist Dzingel), that's a much busier summer than we usually see.

Niskanen for Gudas is just a normal trade to me. Wasn't a big or shocking deal. Trouba i'll give you was a bigger one. And almost unanimously everyone said the return was underwhelming. Agree the free agent market is better then usual. We also already have basically been told Bob and Panarin are heading to Florida. Duchene is the real wild card this year. Could see him going any route really as he's still young and can be a #1 C on almost any team but might also take a secondary role to try and win. I feel like after those 3 it's a normal FA class where a Pavelski stays were he is and the rest get monster deals from teams who regret the term in 2 summers. Don't see any fan bases getting pumped over guys like Gardiner, Lee, or Nyqvist. Complete opposite actually if they get 5-7 year terms.

My point wasn’t about the return for those players, it’s more active than normal years. I can’t see Florida getting both Panarin and Bovrovsky. Bob makes a lot of sense, their goaltending is a mess. Panarin, they don’t really need him, plus I don’t see it being realistic that a franchise with that revenue pays those guys 100M over the next 4 years on top of the pretty big payroll they have. They can manage it cap wise, but the owner would likely have to kick in a big chunk of his own cash. Big name UFA’s usually get front loaded, bonus heavy deals that require a lot of cash the first 3-4 or 5 years. Plus Panarin has indicated he wants to play in a big hockey market, which is the opposite of the Panthers. They could dump Huberdeau Matheson and others to make it work, but are you really putting yourself in a better position? Regardless of who gets those UFA’s, the point is that there are bigger names moving than we have seen in the last 6-7 years that I can recall. We have seen Tavares and Richards and not much else. This year has 3 players that are perennial all stars.

Feels pretty much like any year in the lead up to the draft and free agency. Is there anything you're reading proving it's more active as compared to recent years? Panarin wants to live in a big market. Not necessarily a big hockey market, as I understand it. Miami fits that perfectly. Maybe he doesn't go there....but all momentum has pointed that way for a few months now that it will be LA, NY, Chicago, or Miami.

Lightning get some cap relief in the form of Ryan Callahan mysteriously having a career ending back injury. It could very easily be true but it’s also kind of shady when teams have these guys pop up all the time when they need to move contracts...

Some interesting guys have slid out of the 1st round, both Lavoie and Kaliev were expected to be gone in the teens or right after. Brink has also slid a bit.
the Bob McKenzie list is usually the best one for predicting the draft as it's a consensus of a bunch of scouts. Top players still there:
19-Lavoie, Hal(QMJHL) 21-Kaliev, Ham(OHL) 25-Robertson, Edm(WHL) 26-Brink, Sioux(USHL) 29-Vlasic, USA(U18 program)
