7th loss in a row for Toronto, how much rope does Babcock have? Time for Dubas to bring up his boy, Keefe. Brendan Shanahan announced that Sheldon Keefe has been named the Club’s new head coach.

I hope Sheldon Keefe likes pressure.
Sad to see Babcock go as our guys will eventually be thankful for having his as their coach early on in their careers but his complete unwillingness to change or adapt fucked him in the end.
I do think it's a bit of an over-reaction but this is where being the biggest market in a cap world allows you to have high expectations and say "fuck the money" aspect of it and just judge solely on results.
And to this point all the issues add up to something having to happen and as usual it's easier to changes coaches then 20 players.

nice of Brendan Shanahan to come hold little Kyle's hand when firing his first coach
if he left it to Dubas Babcock would have talked him out of a firing and walked away with a multi year multi million dollar extension hahaha

Basically a "i'm firing my guy so you can hire yours" thing which just tells you how divided they all are on where they think this should be right now. Dubas is now on a very short leash to figure this out meaning Keefe is also on a short leash as if one goes they're both going and a whole new regime is being brought in. I just hope that over the next 5-10 games that we see some roster deployment that Babcock refused to do. Some of my key changes would be loading up 1 line and using Tavares/Hyman as a shut down duo, putting Barrie on PP1, spreading out my talent to get 2 solid PP units, and deploying the goaltenders with more of a gut feeling and saving Andersen for the tougher opponent approach.

i think it shows that Shanahan didn't trust Dubas to do it..... because if roster construction was a major issue in his eyes and the deployment of that roster was an issue as well..... Dubas should have been able to overrule Babcock at some point but clearly he never could.... Babcock was always the superior figure and they allowed him to put himself off that way... even at the end of year pressers or whenever a big contract signing happened..... Babcock always made everyone know it was a WE thing..... well if it was a we thing he should hev been flexible enough to deploy the roster the way Dubas saw fit when he constructed it... at least give it a chance
I think Dubas was intimidated by Babcock and that's why it went down as it did.... and the fact your GM was intimidated by his coach might be the biggest problem of all

Knives are really coming out for Babcock now that he is gone ... the Mike Commodore stuff over the weekend, then the Marner story leaked yesterday, both Jeff O'Neill and Jeremy Roenick piled on last night ... I believe the words "worst human being on the planet" were used to describe the consensus view of Babcock from speaking to many of his former players according to O'Neill. Past treatment of Modano and Spezza brought up ... and now Bill Peters is feeling the heat as well... Akim Aliu went on twitter with some pretty serious allegations from ten years ago levelled at the Flames bench boss the joys of social media and the twitterverse where people can freely say whatever they seemingly want to since the Marner stuff is pretty well confirmed now.... it was a pretty shitty thing to do but in reality I'm sure it's far from the worst thing a hockey coach has ever done

What Peters did is worse than what Babcock did. Being or saying racist things is worse than being an asshole.

The "Mike Babcock isn't a nice person" stuff isn't new.
Now that he's gone i'm sure there will be more horror stories worse then the Marner thing come out.
The real issue becomes if someone hits too close to home and Babcock decides to out a player for doing something which you have to think inevitably happened on a young team like he coached for 4.25 years with most of the same group for the last 3.25 years of that.
Everyone in Detroit said that there were reasons way beyond just being a hard ass coach why guys like Zetterberg and Datsyuk didn't see eye to eye with him. I think anyone overly shocked that some questionable things will come out against a coach who had full reigns to do whatever the hell he wanted considering the contract he had just hasn't been paying full attention.
But that Bill Peters thing is a whole other can of worms. The fact there are players willing to put their name behind saying what Aliu said 100% happened pretty much sinks his coaching career. No room in society for that type of person being in a position of leadership.
