Still gotta get health canada approval to play games in Ontario and Quebec Ontario talking 28 day lockout starting Christmas Eve.... hard to get a January 13 start date to fit that narrative I think like MLB and NFL, with NHL teams doing a lot of testing provinces and states will be flexible with NHL teams. We likely won't have fans in the stands in Canadian teams buildings for 6-7 weeks.

The AHL has announced that a "structural framework" has been approved for the 2020-21 season. The AHL plans to start the season on Feb. 5, 2021. "Details are still being worked out, but this step allows our teams and their National Hockey League partners to better determine their plans for the coming season. We look forward to dropping the puck on Feb. 5," said AHL President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Howson in a statement.

The salary cap manipulation this year has been ridiculous. Because so many teams require LTIR relief, instead of trying to cut the big contracts and leave themselves with cap space to accumulate for a trade deadline acquisition, teams actually have to try to be as close to the salary cap as possible to maximize the LTIR benefit.
I can't think of a better way to handle LTIR, but it seems to me something needs to change.

I can't think of a better way to handle LTIR, but it seems to me something needs to change. I wouldn't say LTIR is manipulation, more taxing maximum advantage of the existing rules. That's different to me than having Hossa pretend he can't play for medical reasons. From my understanding of LTIR(I'm not a cap expert, I just play one on TV) is that you can only be above the cap by the amount of cap hit the injured player has...so if say Marner is out 4 months, Toronto could go up to a max of 10.9M higher on the cap by putting him on LTIR. If they only go 5M above, the other 5.9M does not accumulate, which is different than being 10.9M below the cap all season and having 25M of cap room at the trade deadline. So basically you're not getting extra cap room, but conceptually, you can replace a 5M player with another 5M player while yours is out.

Strange occurrence, LV starting the season with 13 F and 5D due to cap issues, they can't dress Holder for lack of cap space. From expansion to cap hell in 3 years and their centers might be the worst in the NHL.

another over exaggeration
cap hell? far from it
worst centers in the NHL? they're basically the same centers that they've had for their existence aside from losing Stastny.... William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault as a 1-2 are far far far from the worst in the NHL and Chandler Stephenson is a fine third line option as well.... no clue who the fourth is but who cares

Another 14 are within 2.1 mil of the cap. 4 teams have 7+ mil in space. All rebuilding teams in NJ, Detroit, Ottawa, LA. Isn't 1 NHL team with any sort of expectations not technically in "cap hell". But that won't stop people from constantly using it as the only thing they can mention about certain teams. For all the cap issues Toronto apparently has created for themselves according to a certain Montreal fan....Montreal currently has 158k more cap space.

Audi-Marchessault has taken 383 faceoffs the last 2 years COMBINED. I don't think he has ever played center full time in the NHL. Their centers are: 1-Karlsson 2-Stephenson(55pts in 209 NHL games at 26) 3-Glass 4-Nosek or Roy

Not that Stastny is a star, but they are replacing him with an unproven 21 year old(12pts in 39 games last year) or a guy who was 4th line in Washingston(Stephenson). When you can't dress 6D due to the cap, that's the very definition of cap hell.
