We don't have to look at Trump if we want to see a Moron . For our Premier to insinuate that Declaring a State of Emergency in CBRM after 150 cms of Snow was a Publicity Stunt .....tells me all I need to know about this guys Ego . There are people trapped in their Houses , snowblowers , 4x4 Trucks with Plows are for the most part useless against this amount of snow and anybody that knows anyone with some type of Commercial clearing equipment , they are gone to work for the Cape Breton Municipality to try to get the Main Roads cleared . Tim Houston's looking down his nose on the situation should not be forgotten . I saw that. Talk about unprofessional and unbefitting of a Premier. He should be embarrassed by those comments. Hopefully cleanup is going smoothly in Cape Breton. I remember with Fiona he had a pretty similar attitude, except it was more going on about how hard Halifax was hit and kind of being dismissive of the damage it caused other places. From what I heard, Halifax wasn't even hit overly hard by the hurricane (if at all). Poilievre is going after the same voters as Trump, the low education white dudes that think women should be there to serve them, that minorities are there to replace them and gays/trans/by etc are mentally ill. They are the pissed off dudes at Tim Hortons who think everybody agrees with them and they are part of the majority. Trump voters are the minority in the US and an even smaller one in Canada. I hope you're right. I don't like Trudeau anymore than the next person, but as an LGBTQ+ person I feel like I have valid reason to be afraid for my future and my rights with him as Prime Minister. It's 2024, I just don't get how people like Poilievre and Trump can even get high up in their parties. The same premier who threatened people in Cape Breton with fines for going into the woods because of a forest fire in Halifax. Out of sight and out of mind is what comes to mind for me. The Halifax obsession of our provincial politics means everyone else gets this belittled attitude yet the only reason he's actually in power is the rural vote. To argue against a state of emergency when a major center like CBRM is buried for days and people can't leave their homes is disgusting. To do it during this time of housing crises, inflation, etc, etc when people had at most a 48-72 hour warning of how bad this would be is simply cold fucking hearted politics nonsense fighting between a mayor and premier who doesn't know when to play politics and when to simply be a decent human being. He was certainly proud to say no help moves any further during the state of emergency he wouldn't declare when CBRM said they needed help. So I guess every state of emergency should now fall under PR issues. Forest fire in Halifax? You deal with it. Covid killing off high risk people in seniors home and debilitating conditions in normally healthy people? Too bad. All fake. Generational snowfall forcing seniors in their homes stranded for a week with no help? Winter in Canada. Prepare better. Conservatives have had such a great recent track record of seemingly constantly arguing for nothing to change and wanting us to believe that the left is simply hysterically panicking during these disasters.

When PEI finally opened up to tourism, Dennis King was greeting people at the airport to hand out food vouchers to tourists while we had a lot of people here struggling to put food on the table. He's botched quite a bit since then too. Housing, healthcare, inflation to name a few.

If the rednecks can bitch and complain about their imaginary rights being taken away because mask mandates, then I as a queer person can bitch and complain about very real rights that will be taken away by his proven Anti-LGBTQ+ government. I don't and shouldn't just get used to it. And anyone with LGBTQ+ loved ones shouldn't either. I hope I'm wrong, but he's dangerous and shouldn't be trusted. At least with Trudeau, I'll take the evil I do know.

There's clearly a line the CPC is choosing to walk during the campaign when it comes to LGBTQ related issues and it's certainly not anything resembling any understanding of what that community thinks and I can see why there would be so much fear in that community. But this countries politics is being decided by people fed up with a well past his prime PM who has created an inner echo chamber and should be well into his 2nd year into a new career but would rather his legacy be to hand the CPC a 2nd consecutive breakaway on an empty net only this time its not Erin O'Toole playing the role of Patrik Stefan so the results will be different. Hopefully its more of an economic impact vs a social one but with a majority things might get dicey pretty early in that term to almost see where the appetite is in the general public for radical change.

What in the world are you seeing that says "every single thing" makes Trump look right all along? You can't make a statement like that with zero details behind it and say thats what jumps out at you after not paying attention. Unless the US has had drastic election reform their election has nothing to do with popular vote. Its about the electoral college which means polls today are almost pointless. So many factors get involved in American politics that the religious affiliation of someone attached to a candidate can swing an entire district in 1 state and simply declaring yourself the blue guy in the red vs blue debate gets you the votes in another part of the country. Its much tougher to narrow down. But it's 100% silly to think either guy can't win. The system they use means both have a legit shot. Canada's system on the other hand is much more predictable. Certain parts of the country run the politics. Ontario and Alberta saying "screw Trudeau" can basically mean a CPC majority. It would take a leadership change for the Liberals to just stop the CPC majority right now. But I don't see why Trump making fun of Biden makes Biden incompetent while running an economy that's basically been the envy of the world the last 5-6 quarters as everyone is on the looking for recessions. Biden stutters. Oh the horror. But if I said Trump told people to drink bleach 4 years ago as he said Covid would be gone by May of 2020 or so I can already feel certain peoples eyes roll. The hypocracy is laughable around anything Trump right now. To ignore the negative and say he's still the only option for anything actually good for a country is just clear some are still choosing to ignore all the bad after the last decade of his nonsense doing nothing good for the politics of the entire planet. These are the things that keep popping up with me on my desktop. Below are two youtube vids that popped up this morning while I was searching hockey related vids. I don't want to argue politics, but it seems like a few people here think that if they insist on denial - then it isn't true - Biden isn't struggling - US polls are pointless - Trudeau is the better evil and should rebound within the next 20 months - and so on. To be honest - I wouldn't vote for either Biden or Trump, but I'm guessing that Trump will become president again unless they replace Biden with somebody else. As far as Canadian politics - all anybody needs to do is search google and it shows Trudeau on the way out (in my searches). One person keeps asking - what convinced me to think Trump is the best man for the job - or asking what made me support the PC party - was it the gay hatred and that sort of thing - and I don't support either. I'm just saying that a few people here seem very narrow minded and can only see what they want to see. Maybe these vids and the constant barrage of similar info is blinding me - and you guys are right - but it does seem that no matter where I look - this sort of thing is what pops up. It's not like I'm searching for that info - it's just out there - everywhere. Reading this forum - you would think that I'm the only one who sees it. I think both Trudeau and Biden are on their way out. Am I wrong to think that? Nobody needs to tell me about Trump's faults and Polievre's faults. I'm just talking about who will win the elections (IMO) if they were held today. I'm not a Trump supporter - but I do think Biden is failing. I've always been a Trudeau supporter, but the people have turned on him in a big way across the country. IMO - it's his smugness in things like vacation spending and putting down anybody who dares to ask questions rather than justifying his decisions. He has become something of an Ugly American Prime Minister.
It may have been harsh, I'm hardly narrow minded though. I've also said many times to read Trump's Project 2025 which is his actual first year platform. And if that's what he wants to do in his first year, everyone should be scared of what years 2-4 will have in store. It isn't a made up fear or anything like that, he legitimately wants to bring the States back in time socially. As for Biden's gaffes, he has had a well documented case of a stutter from a young age and like 90% of those videos are just his stutter. His job has a lot of public speaking, any one of us here could step up to a podium in front of a room of reporters and cameras and mics in our face and we'd stutter too. The other 10% are just old man moments; which again, we all have those moments. I'm 32 and have been clean sober and bumped into walls or pulled a door that clearly said "push". Just because he has these funny little derpy moments, doesn't mean he has dementia or he's gone senile. Trump has had more troubling gaffes too. Space force, airports in the Revolutionary War, Not knowing what the nuclear triad was (kind of important when dealing with nukes), using press conferences after school shootings to talk about himself. In the States it comes down to two options. Biden who may be a bit silly at times and has a son dealing with addictions, and Trump who will ruin democracy in the states and make the country a living hell for anyone who isn't a white, heterosexual, cisgender man. It is in his official platform among other awful things. When you read the policies and look at the history of both candidates, the choice becomes very obvious. I wish the news outlets would focus on Project 2025 because that would bury Trump. He'd lose the moderate and traditional Reagan Republicans. Where this is concerning with Poilievre is how he only ever says "ax the tax" (which actually hasn't been as bad as Conservatives make it out to be). But American politics does have an impact here and the behaviours of people in the States also impact here. IMO Biden's biggest fault has been not doing more to tackle the rise in hate crimes. Hate crimes have also been on the rise in Canada with anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim, racist, and anti-LGBTQ attitudes. Canada has in fact become a more dangerous country to minorities, nothing like it is in other countries, it's not like we're in Hitler led Germany territory but it always starts small. If Poilievre came out and directly said that the rights of minority groups would remain protected under his reign as Prime Minister, I honestly would have a lot of comfort in that. There is good reason to speculate on what his plans are in that regard given what's happening just south of us so close to home. You don't even need to look at the States for that either, Alberta just implemented or attempted to implement harshly strict anti-trans laws. I don't know if a Conservative majority under Poilievre would do that but it's not a promising sign given what's been happening in our own country and their own stance in the past with LGBTQ matters. Hopefully I'm wrong too with Poilievre, I hope he has everyone's best interest when he's PM, I want to see him succeed as PM and allow Canada to be at its best. But that success should never be at the cost of rights and protections of marginalized groups.

That is how misinformation spreads. Or completely context-less information. Such as thinking someones lifetime stutter somehow makes them incompetent as a leader in the eyes of some but not giving up democratically elected power makes you super competent in the eyes of others. BTW once you start sharing your propaganda AND defending it, it stops only being about "I think X will win". Once you accept and buy into it and offer it as a defence, you're supporting it. I think Polievre will easily win a majority. Not because I want it. Because polling and statistics heavily weight into that fact. But i'll never share video's that only paint him in a positive light while dumping on the other side because once I buy into that type of politics I might as well be a zombie. If you only watch your "Trump is good and here's why..." video's you're missing out on everything else. I can edit a video to make every awful world leader in history look like a reasonable option with some good ideas. That doesnt mean that video is what should dictate how history perceives them. You can make Hitler look like a creative and innovative econonic leader with nationalistic policies meant to strengthen his country. As long as you leave out all the murder things don't look all that bad. As long as you ignore that January 6th happened and that he had his kids in key government roles and other complete nonsense that Trump doesn't look all that bad. Trump's negatives are crimes, his insurrection, and his insane international views such as "Russia can do what they want". But Biden does stutter, you're right. But its not new and has nothing to do with his age. And your video's that only you see will never tell you otherwise.

But its not new and has nothing to do with his age. And your video's that only you see will never tell you otherwise. There's definitely not much point in discussing the next Canadian election and US election side by side. Two totally different situations. One still has the resemblance of a conversation about policy and the other has democracy at stake. Canadian polling is generally pretty accurate and all indicators would at least at the current moment lead to a large cons majority. This isn't super surprising given in 2025 Trudeau will be in his 10th year serving AS PM and economic conditions and cost of living are where they are. They probably should have replaced Trudeau years ago but are kind of stuck with him now because they don't have a single inspiring candidate waiting in the wings. In terms of the video he attached, the person who made the video about the electoral map basically just took all of the toss up states and gave them to Trump by using the most generous polling numbers (which are all within margin of error generally). Its not that the scenario he lays out is impossible. It is absolutely possible as the US election has been considered a toss up for a long time. But you could make a video which is just as valid and considers the following factors going into November. 1. Democrats have outperformed polls every year since 2016 2. Economic conditions and metrics are improving every month and will likely continue to do so - unemployment, inflation, wage growth, stock market 3. Incumbent presidents with good economic conditions typically get relected 4. Republic voter turnout has been generally weak since 2016 5. Republican's have been a disaster electorally since RoevWade was overturned and this will be 100% part of the campaign. 6. The republican primary has shown Trump losing women and moderate voters and his messaging is even more extreme than previous years (jailing media, jailing opposition, encouraging russia to attack other countries, everything listed in project 2025) 7. Whitehouse has passed several pieces of key legislation (chips and science act, inflation reduction act, student loans, infrastructure act) and shows an interest in bi-partisanship while republicans in the house have no accomplishments or platform to run on. 8. Taylor Swift - not even joking, her effort to help voters register can make a difference in many of these swing states. Election will come down to turnout. She is even more popular than she was last time she endorsed Biden in 2020. I honestly have no idea how someone could have this "enlightened centrist" view of this election like there is actually some middle ground between a party with actual policies and someone whos only policy is running to stay out of prison. Of course most of us can't vote in America so its not exactly a harmful view to have on a QMJHL message board. What Biden really has is a communication problem, he is accomplishing a lot in the whitehouse given the fact that he has a divided senate and house, but there are tons of low information voters that have no idea about that. In the US you have tons of voters who would say things like "I don't like Trump but I'm fiscally conservative" who have absolutely no idea that Trump grew the debt by nearly 8 trillion dollars. There are tons of examples like this, where people are voting against their own interests, other simple examples like benefitting from lower medical costs, cheaper insulin etc where they have no clue they are benefitting from the democrat policies they oppose.

IMO - it's his smugness in things like vacation spending and putting down anybody who dares to ask questions rather than justifying his decisions. He has become something of an Ugly American Prime Minister. Had to pick out this comment on its own. If this is true...that you're actually viewing smugness in his vacationing...you're again just buying into right wing commentary. Did we really elect a member of an extremely wealthy family with enormous political ties due to a family upbringing in political circles and now want to get mad at the fact this wealthy person vacations at places that cost a lot of money? Why do people care where these politicians vacation? Outside of pure jealousy I just see a million policy issues that should be forming an opinion. The fact so many people eat up topics like where rich people vacation is why that eats up headlines. Its rather hilarious watching someone speak on smugness around Trudeau's vacationing while laying claim that Donald Trump of all people actually appears competent to hold office.

Just throwing it out there too, Poilievre has either used or attempted to use tax money for his vacations too. I know he has at least tried to use the money to pay for his vacations, and he's been way more smug about it.

I'm scared to say anything here. If I mention seeing Trudeau um and ah his way through an explanation about a well-deserved Easter weekend ski trip that cost the Canadian taxpayers $234,000 dollars last year, I'm "buying into right wing commentary." If I mention Biden looks to be getting dementia - a few turn it around and claim that I'm ignorant because I dared to use that word and they have a relative suffering from dementia - so I must be secretly attacking them. How somebody comes up with that sort of thing baffles me. I'm talking about Biden - not your relatives. . . How true the title is - enter at your own risk - LOL. I just watch the news like anybody else and form my own opinions - which is my right. I don't care enough to buy into anything. Bottom line - Trudeau vs. Poilievre in a vote today - Poilievre with a comfortable win (IMO and supported by polls). Not at all saying one guy is better than the other. Trump vs. Biden in an election today - Trump with a narrow win (IMO and supported by polls). Not saying that either is worth voting for. It used to be that parties attacked the leader of their opposition parties. People called it dirty politics - but it became the norm. This time, the Biden administration is so afraid of losing that the focus has turned to attacking the voter. The strategy is to try to embarrass the voter by claiming that the Trump people are going after the uneducated, white, homophobic vote. In reality, all they are accomplishing is having the voter see it for what it is - and Trump's popularity continues to rise instead of drop. Nobody is going to like me saying that - but it's what I see - and again - not buying into anything. I can't stand any of them to be honest - Trump - Biden - Trudeau or Poilievre. I'd rather see Michelle Obama and Singh get in than any of those four. What you see is what you're buying into. You can keep pretending its not the truth or you continue to spin things based on admitted ad algorithms pushing pro-Trump and anti-Biden rhetoric so of course thats your slant. The polls in toss up states change daily. There's a reason every US election for the last generation has come down to certain battleground states. Simply getting an extra 10% of a population out in X district can swing an entire state. Not 1 person here is saying anything about the races. Its about the clear propaganda led rhetoric around things like Biden's age...what you were calling his "dementia" last week. The more people say shit like "are you SERIOUSLY not seeing/hearing anything negative about Trump?" you seem to ignore it as if it's not being said. Why do you seem to completely ignore those comments? You're doubling and tripling down on Biden while not acknowledging your own bias (did you know he's stuttered for his entire life?) and only reinforcing the Trump nonsense as viable. I can both think Trump can win an election and that he's an absolute piece of garbage criminal who shouldn't be anywhere near an election based on his own actions during the time he was President and not even taking decades of other nonsense into account such as rapes, fraud, etc. But lets keep walking that fine line and pretending we're completely unbias and not influenced by an echo chamber of youtube video's.

Biden wasn't charged with document retention because "there was little chance of a conviction due to his memory loss and inability to recognize the seriousness of the charges." That's some stutter. So let me get this straight: Because Trump had no memory loss and was able to be charged with storing highly restricted documents at his Florida residence he's the better option. Perfectly logical. You keep saying you buy into nothing while proving you 100% are buying into something.

Anyway - peace and I'm out on this one. I'm not going to win an argument with a board Admin - and I'm definitely not going to give anybody the satisfaction of ruining my day because I have an opinion. The only opinion I care about on this one is my own. Back to hockey! All this board Admin keeps saying is that you DO have an opinion. It's clear as day. Your comments and posts keep putting it out there pretty clearly. This coming in at the end and saying "i'd really prefer the most left wing option" while spinning Trump as only positive when compared to Biden after admitting about the echo chamber is hilarious though.

The only opinion I care about on this one is my own. Back to hockey! There's been more than an admin in this discussion. And saying you only care about your own opinion is a pretty immature way of looking at things. I have provided multiple times the proof through Trump's literal campaign platform why Biden is still the better option, but you've chosen to ignore that. The fact of the matter is that one may act a little goofy at times and the other wants to totally change the political landscape into an authoritarian one that only benefits himself while leaving the vulnerable even more vulnerable. Let's say Biden does have a severe case of dementia, he's still the safest option between the two. And where did you read that Biden wouldn't be charged because of memory loss for the document case? But we are allowed to counter with our own opinions and fact, especially when your arguments are based off of false claims.

At the end of the day, the Dems are outproducing the polls since GOP overturned Roe. That will be a huge issue again in November. Most elections, the economy is a top 2-3 issue, as Trump said he needs the economy to tank in order to win, right now the US economy is the best in the world, unemployment record low, inflation low and stock market at record high. The GOP usually wins points on immigration/border but they fumbled the recent border bill negotiations by not even giving it a vote in the house. If Dems are smart, they hammer this home to voters the next 6 months. Biden is unpopular in large part because of GOP propaganda on his age and his son. Some is justified, some is Faux news echo chamber. Trump is even more unpopular due to his 4 years in office, long list of crime/charges and constant rhetoric. On a good day for the GOP that evens out for Biden's age, by having him in court all year, it will be hard to gain any popularity, especially with soft Dems and Independents, it's like Hillary's e-mails in the new daily/weekly in 2016.
