Jays rumored to have traded for Matt Chapman. Not a big fan of adding someone who batted .210 last season but hopefully he can rebound now that he'll be 2 seasons post surgery. You're a fucking idiot. In all seriousness, after more reading. I'm now convinced he's a good addition. Makes under 10M. Great defensively. Cost doesn't sound too ridiculous.

The last 3rd baseman the Jays landed from Oakland turned out not too bad......
Having Chapman's defensive skill on 3rd is a big add....plus, having another bat in the lineup that can hit dingers is also solid.
They led the MLB in homers last season with 262....don't see why they couldn't lead the league again this season especially with this addition of Chapman....despite Semien's departure.

Ken Rosenthal and Carlos Baerga saying the Jays after Jose Ramirez with the intent of playing him at 2B. Their lineup would be lit. Orelivis Martinez, Pearson, Kirk and Biggio be enough?

He isn’t Donaldson, but he did out homer Semien while in Oakland together. While he won’t get the Dunedin dingers Semien benefitted from 35+ is more likely than unlikely I think moving from the ALW to ALE

It's a dangerous lineup for opposing pitchers again....
As of now:
Springer Bichette Vladdy Hernandez Chapman Gurriel Grichuk Biggio Jansen/Kirk
.....just an example
??
Chapman was hitting in Oakland, so I expect his power numbers to go up in Toronto. Plus he will be surrounded by other top tier hitters. Gonna score a lot of runs this year.

Likely means the Jays are out on Freeman ... but Schwarber could still be an option as a lefty bat to play LF, which would make Gurriel expendable?? This is a big addition - apparently Chapman had been playing hurt the last couple of seasons and there is a theory that it contributed to his offensive decline. Defensively, he is considered one of the top defenders in all of baseball (former platinum glove winner) ... This lineup is starting to look scary! Best defensive WAR in baseball in 2018 and 2019 There is also another element I've seen explored which is that the majority of RYU's ground balls go to the third baseman. Adding Chapman should also improve Ryu, and the pitching staff as a whole. While his BA isnt great, he's OBP is very similar to Gurriels last year. Hopefully it is the injury that has hampered his bat. Because his OPS (and avg) has dropped for 3 straight seasons. Power and defence are excellent.

Also I remember guys on this board a few years ago talking about “Shatkins” not having a clue how to build a team. Please, show yourselves!! Lol To be fair...AA did build the defending World Champs The only questions heading into this season are how the veteran additions replace those who left. But if Gausman is healthy and Chapman solidifies the infield D while the core keeps developing...I think everyone will happily eat the Shatkins crow in October. The AL East is going to be absolutely bonkers this season.

Shocked that Groshans wasn't included . Chapman is signed through to the end of next year by the looks of it. Perhaps they have a plan (barring using Groshans in a bigger trade which I'm fine with) to groom Groshans to be the full time 3B in a couple years time. The most successful franchises always seem to have their next hot prospect come up when their older guys age out. Another lefty hitter is the only real hole/weakness left on this team, there is a nice mix of youth and veterans that the 2015 team didnt have which had such a short window to work with.

Groshans teasing on his Twitter. If the Jays do add J-Ram it would be likely that at least two, if not 3 of Groshans, Moreno, Martinez and Pearson would be Cleveland bound.

In a musing that may not age well when he signs for huge money later today, wonder if Freddie Freeman's team overplayed their hand a little? The Braves, Yankees, and Blue Jays all seem to have moved on to other options - could the Dodgers be left bidding against themselves?

I think the Red Sox came in and blew everyone away and its up to the Dodgers to meet the number. Or this could be one of those where a completely random team like Tampa gives him a silly offer he cant turn down.

Sounds like California is his preference. They’d have to move Hosmer. Boston or Tampa could be a fit for him.
